3 Company overview Klabin is Brazil s largest producer and exporter of paper. The company produces paper and paperboard for packaging, corrugated boxes, industrial bags and wood logs, being the market leader in all these sectors. Established in 1899, it has 14 mills in Brazil and 1 in Argentina ( employees). Certified FSC - Forest Stewardship Council -, ISO 9001 and 14001, FSSC 22000, OHSAS and Total Productive Maintenance (TPM).

7 Bio-based Packaging as a Green Food Saver Food wastage footprint In the world, 1.3 billion tons of food annually wasted in between the producer and the final consumer (FAO). In Brazil, 39% of all produced fruits and vegetables do not reach consumer's table due to the use of inadequate packaging in distribution and storage (Embrapa). Green Food Saver Corrugated paper packaging can play an effective role in reducing food loss in a sustainable, disposable and biodegradable manner. Redesigning the packaging model aimed at fruits export to: ensure best mechanical performance (physical protection) during the processes of packaging, storage, handling and transportation; provide adequate ventilation allowing efficient temperature maintenance and gas exchange to control maturation; optimize manufacturing: achieve the objectives without increasing the fibers used in the process and at a competitive cost;
