3 HISTORY & MISSION Association Mitsinjo - Malagasy NGO evolved from a community organization founded in working in conservation and sustainable development - partly funded partly by revenue from wildlife tourism - manages two protected areas with more than 10,000 ha - entirely made up of local villagers turned conservationists and para-scientists Research-based conservation

62 Ecotourism benefits MITSINJO - has created jobs for 35 people (25 guides, 10 other) - sells local products (honey, handicraft) via its boutique. Local bee-keepers and craftspeople are encouraged and trained by the association - pays a local tax to be used by the Commune d Andasibe for development projects - uses its money to finance its own development activities, benefitting approx. 350 households in the Andasibe region
