1 Community Meeting Barnardsville Resource Center - January 17, 2006 Needs/Issues Group 1 Encouraging Local Economy Community Development Air & Water Quality Cultural Preservation Roads/Safety Natural Preservation Provide County support for recreational activities in this area. Youth program/youth activities. Water. (2X) Preserve historic school. Safer roadside shoulders for pedestrians. Preserve natural assets-- use tax incentives for land conservation. Local farmers' market. (2X) Serve older folks' needs. Clean, healthy water. Drug Enforcement. Road safety: Add shoulder with rumble strip. There are several deaths every year on Hwy Maintain rural character. Alternative agriculture (not tobacco). Community park/recreation development. Water Quality: 1. Control erosion from development. 2. Encourage riparian buffers. 3. Publicize/provide financial incentives. Keep our community law enforcement--at least in summer to use facilities. Safer, bike-friendly, pedestrian-friendly roads. Hemlock woolly adelgid. Adult education programs. Water-flood issue, safety issue. Preserve CCC Camp facilities. Wider roads in community where applicable. Group meeting skills. Air quality. Traffic/parking at school. Education resources & opportunities. Storm water runoff. To get our County EMS personnel back that was taken from us in Maintain community gathering places & institutions--fire Department, school, community center, post office. Water quality: preserve & be watchful of quality. Maintain the rural atmosphere of the area. NC 197 designated as N.C. Scenic Byway. Grant support for childcare program. Litter. Protect from influx of "big box" stores & chains. Safety of Sugar Creek/Hwy. 197 intersection. More police control. Soil & water conservation. New & wider highway-dillingham Rd. Value Fire Department, Post Office & Community Center. Value programs at our Community Center such as the yoga. Need the daycare. Continued support of the community centers. Loss of hemlocks from woolly adelgid. Control development on the ridge--tops & slopes. Creek cleaned out for flood control & litter. Support for pool & Community Center. Continuing or seasonal recreation facilities: pool, ball court & fields, library (basic reading & research). Set down stories about community history (video?, scrapbook?). Documenting of local history & traditions.

Affordable health care-- services continued. Afterschool program. Reduce property taxes. Planning consultant for Community Club. Speed control on 197. Better (more) use of to communicate. Bring the van back. Child care. Use value property tax. More communication with community about county activity. More highway signs-- "Burnsville", "Dead End", etc. Environmental awareness. Parenting Bicycle paths along highways. Protect land values. Walkways adjacent to Hwy Preserve rural environment. Preserve property rights. Be aware of overlapping geographical districts: Ivy Township Barnardsville Weaverville P.O. "Big Ivy". "Smart" development. Ridgetop ordinance. Start an adelgid program. Historic preservation.
