3 STRYBOS BARRON KING LTD. Page 1 Introduction Strybos Barron King Ltd. was retained by National Homes to prepare an for the subject property in accordance with the Municipality of Clarington requirements. The purpose of this study is to determine the composition, character and health of existing trees, assess opportunities for preservation in relation to the construction of a proposed new residential development. The subject property is located on the northeast corner of Prestonvale Road and Bloor Street. (Refer to Appendix A - Key Map). The owner is proposing to construct a residential development on the subject site. In order to facilitate the proposed construction, the removal of all trees within the development limit of the subject site will be required. All of the existing vegetation beyond the limit of grading within the 10m setback of the established top of bank, as well as all trees located within the adjacent residential lots is to be preserved under this development proposal. Site Context The subject site is vacant lands which are currently composed of mixed vegetated communities. These communities include a ploughed cultural meadow, planted hedgerows, and un-managed coniferous plantations. These communities are all situated within the table land and developable portion of the property. The east portion of the property (beyond the limits of development) is composed of mixed, immature, valley edge tree communities as well as a grassy wetland. Plans Utilized A topographic plan prepared by IBW Surveyors, along with a Site Plan prepared by Cassidy & Co. Architectural Technologists and a Grading/Servicing Plan prepared by Crozier & Associates were used as reference to determine the location of existing trees within, adjacent to, and in relation to the proposed development. Tree Inventory (Refer to Tree inventory tables pages 2&3) Trees were identified both within and immediately adjacent to the subject property. The trees are described in terms of species and diameter at breast height (DBH measured at 1.4m from grade). They have been assessed in terms of their general health from poor to good; GOOD trees in good overall health and condition with desirable structure, FAIR trees in moderate health and condition with less desirable structure, and POOR trees displaying prominent health issues such as decay and disease and/or poor form and structure. (Refer to Appendix C Tree Inventory, Preservation & Removal Plan for locations of specific trees.) Inventory Summary Much of the developable portion of the site is composed of ploughed cultural meadow with no significant woody vegetation. The central area of the developable table lands is composed of immature to mature coniferous plantation. The species within the plantation include White Pine, Scots Pine, Colorado Spruce, Serbian Spruce and Juniper spp. A mature White Cedar hedge flanks the southeast limit of the ploughed cultural meadow and the west limit of an adjacent residential lot. This hedge is also composed of Colorado Spruce and White Pine. A small number of immature deciduous trees including Buckthorn and Red Maple are interspersed throughout the hedgerow.

4 STRYBOS BARRON KING LTD. Page 2 A number of planted landscape accent trees and naturalized individual trees occur along the property limits of the adjacent residential lots to the north and south limits of the development area of the site. The trees along the south and east limit of the adjacent residential lot to the north include mature Paper Birch, Colorado Spruce, and Manitoba Maple trees. The trees along the west and north limit of the adjacent residential lots to the south include semi-mature to mature Norway Maple, Honey locust, Paper Birch, Linden, Crab Apple, Silver Maple, Sugar Maple, Colorado Spruce, and White Pine trees. These trees are all in generally fair to good condition. The community of woody vegetation at and beyond the established top of bank along the east limit of the development is composed of immature groupings of Buckthorn, Hawthorn, Black Walnut, Sugar Maple and mixed pine and spruce species. More mature tree communities are located toward the south end of this group. Key# Species Table 1 - Tree Inventory Descriptions This number refers to the inventory number for the tree. For trees within the subject site, this number also refers to the tag number attached to the tree. The common names are provided for each tree. Caliper This refers to diameter (in centimetres) at breast height and is measured at 1.4m above the ground for each tree. Crown Estimated diameter of tree canopy (in metres), measured from dripline to dripline. Health Structure Comments An assessment of the general health and vigour of the tree, derived partly through a comparison of deadwood and live growth relative to a 100% healthy tree. The size and colour of foliage are also considered in this category. During the leaf-off season, the amount and distribution of buds is an important determinant of canopy vitality. This indicator is also measured on an ascending scale of poor-fair good. A term describing key distinguishing structural character or defect. Brief description of distinguishing tree features. 6 STRYBOS BARRON KING LTD. Page 4 Summary of Removals Based on the limits of development for this site, all of the existing vegetation within the developable portion of the property will require removal. The majority of the table land is composed of ploughed cultural meadow and un-managed coniferous plantation. All of the trees beyond the limit of grading, within he10m buffer associated with the established top of bank, are to be preserved and protected throughout the development process. All of the trees located within the adjacent residential lots can also be preserved and protected during development. Tree Protection Measures (Refer to Appendix C) All of the trees beyond the limit of grading along the east limit of development as well as all trees located within the adjacent residential lots in close proximity to the site are to be preserved. Approved tree protection hoarding fence is to be erected along the limit of disturbance at the east edge of the site as well as shown on the Tree Inventory and Preservation Plan. Conclusion Strybos Barron King Ltd. was retained by National Homes to prepare an for the proposed Residential Development. Most of the developable portion of the subject site is composed of ploughed cultural meadow and un-managed coniferous plantation. A valley land community of vegetation occurs beyond the established top of bank along the east limit of development. Due to the constraints of the proposed development, all of the existing trees within the developable portion of the property require removal. All trees located beyond the limit of grading toward the valley and within the adjacent residential lots to the north and southeast are to be retained and protected throughout the development construction process.
