6 Is an elected Official Responsible for auditing how county departments spend their budgets. Responsible for auditing and entering information into the accounting system. (payable checks, manual checks, journal entries, etc.) One employee Budget $139,000

7 Responsible for handling taxpayer complaints about their property assessment values. Board of Review holds hearings on assessment complaints and determines the appropriate assessment value Budget $78,000

8 Responsible for maintaining 6 county buildings. This can include: painting, heating and air, plumbing, electrical, etc. Responsible for cleaning county buildings Assists departments in moving equipment and furniture. Budget $1,035, employees

9 The duty of the Clerk of the Circuit Court is to serve as the administrative arm of the Court system. The Clerk is responsible for keeping the official record of the Court in all proceedings that come before the Court. The Clerk also has all financial responsibilities relating to the Court system as well as administrative and managerial duties. All monies owed to the Court are collected and distributed by the Circuit Court Clerk. Budget $610, employees

10 The Coroner investigates all deaths where the decedent was not attended by a licensed physician for whatever cause, and is responsible for determining the manner and cause of each death to decide if an inquest is necessary. The Coroner prepares and conducts inquests. If the circumstances concerning the death are suspicious, obscure or mysterious the Coroner will determine the need for an autopsy. The Coroner maintains records of all deaths in the County for which an inquest is held. 790 deaths and approximately 70 Autopsies annually Autopsies cost about $2000 each Budget $225,000 2 employees

11 The County Clerk's office has four major functions: 1. Write and maintain County Board minutes and other county records. 2. County elections and voter registration. 3. Vital records, including birth, death, and marriage/civil union records. 4. Compute tax rates. Handle redemption of delinquent taxes. Budget $650,000 9 employees

16 Presides over Vermilion County court cases. Vermilion County has 4 Circuit Judges and 3 Associate Judges. Part of the 5 th Judicial Circuit (comprised of Vermilion County, Clark, Coles, Cumberland and Edgar counties). Court cases include 1000 misdemeanors, 650 felonies 1800 traffic incidents, 150 cases of abuse, 170 juvenal cases and a dozen mental cases each year Budget 580,000 2 employees

18 The Mental Health 708 Board subject to the Community Mental Health Act funds, reviews and evaluate community programs and facilities providing mental health, substance abuse and developmental disabilities services to the residents of VC. Appointed by the County Board. 19 Probation Department (also known as Court Services Dept) administers a wide range of programs covering both standard and specialized probation supervision and pretrial and presentence services. Through its programs, the Probation Department provides the opportunity for those involved to make positive changes in their lives. Directly involved with making a connection with 1500 people each month including sex offenders. Budget $1,200, employees

20 The Public Defender is a lawyer appointed to represent people who cannot afford to hire an attorney. The Public Defender s office represents persons in criminal, traffic, juvenile, abuse/neglect and other matters when appointed by the Court. Employs 6 attorney s and 4 other employees Budget $680,000

21 The Vermilion County Recorder's office is responsible for recording deeds, mortgages, assignments, releases, liens, plats and military discharges. Aids in monitoring records for possible fraud Elected Official Responsible for recording all documents that comply with state statutes and affixing revenue stamps to all deeds. Budget $176,000 3 employees

22 The Sheriff s department serves as a critical law enforcement organization for Vermilion County outside the City of Danville. Law enforcement custodian of courthouse. Manages PSB with 300 Inmates Budget $2,580, Deputies 100 employees

23 Elected Official and is an Attorney The State s Attorney is the chief law enforcement officer as well as a legal advisor and counselor for all county officials. Duties and responsibilities include: felony, misdemeanor and traffic prosecutions, delinquency, abuse, neglect and truancy of juveniles, prosecution of domestic violence cases, victim/witness services and others. Each yr. prosecutes 650 felonies, 1000 misdemeanors, 1800 traffic incidents, 140 cases of abuse, 170 juvenile cases and 10 mental cases Budget $1,211,000 Employees=9 attorney s, 9 secretary s, 1 investigator and 2 witness advocates

24 Is the arm of the Illinois Board of Education that channels funding to all of Vermilion County Schools Is an elected official Responsible for VC school districts State Compliance, inspect for safety of all buildings, licensing of all school personnel, legal opinions, county teachers in-service, Regional Safe School programs, truancy issues, listing for substitute teachers, GED coordination, Home School Registrations, School Bus Driver Training, employee and volunteer recognition, maintains a drop-out student school at the old VOTEC center and is active in promoting consolidation. Budget-$92,500 4 employees

25 An Elected Official The Supervisor of Assessments office was created by state law to provide statistical and performance data to the Illinois Department of Revenue and to provide technical advice and information to the 13 township assessors and the Board of Review. The Supervisor of Assessments office maintains the property tax information. This includes all name and address information, assessment values, exemptions, etc. In addition, the Supervisor of Assessments acts as an equalization authority, a statutory clerk of the Board of Review and correlates the work of the township assessors. They are responsible for publishing assessment change notices and mailing notices to the taxpayers. Budget $346,000 8 employees

26 Responsible for installing, researching and maintaining the Vermilion County network (which spans several buildings). The current network consists of 30 servers, and over 300 personal computers. Responsible for employee e mail. Maintains the Vermilion County web pages. Budget $450,000 4 employees

27 Responsible for collecting and distributing property tax monies from more than 55,000 tax properties. Responsible for investing county funds. Prints internal checks payable. Reconciles Vermilion County bank accounts. Collects cash tax monies at treasurer s window Helps the County Clerk conduct VC tax sale Budget $220,000 3 employees
