In particular, the seminar will analyse the current situation of protection of well-known marks in the European Union and in the various Asian ASEM member countries. The seminar will focus on the problem of counterfeiting and the best ways to fight it. The seminar will tackle the often deficient legal situation and administrative practice on enforcement of IP and provide guidance on how to improve this situation in order to achieve effective and long-lasting protection for such rights. b) The seminar aims to increase awareness amongst public authorities, manufacturers and consumer associations of the importance to provide adequate protection of IPRs. The targeted participants to the seminar are public authorities (judges, custom officers, trademark examiners or any other public body dealing with IP enforcement) and relevant representatives of the EU and local industries. c) The purpose is moreover, to promote the appeal of certain trademarks because of their reputation. The seminar should form a starting point for the harmonisation of the domestic laws and regulations regarding the recognition (identification) and protection of well-known marks.
