2 s MISSION ❶ The Centre, a UN and Greek Government joint project based in Thessaloniki, design and implement programs of public management modernization and development, working closely with institutions and experts specialized in public administration, both within the UN system and beyond. 2

3 Our Vision ❶ To support and promote the modernization of administrative systems in the countries of the Central and Eastern Europe and the C.I.S., through policy advice and intensive personnel training. 3

4 Our Vision ❶ To assist the countries concerned to join and participate in the activities of a global on-line program for the conduct of a dialogue and the exchange of experience, data, ideas and expertise on the field of administrative reform. 4

6 Thematic: ❶ They are centred on issues of Human Resources Development and have as their objective the enhancement of performance and professionalism in the public service; 6

7 Geographical: ❶ They target their activities on countries of the Central and Eastern Europe and the Commonwealth of Independent States (C.I.S.) 7

13 Services Provided ❶ uses state-of-the-art technologies in information management and telecommunications, providing on-line services in information, training and policy advice. 13

14 Partnerships in the Region ❶ The Centre is establishing working relationships with both public agencies and academic institutions that are active in the field of administrative reform and human resources development in the countries of Central and Eastern Europe and the C.I.S. 14

15 Partnerships in the Region ❶ From these partners, the Centre draws information and advice on the goals, needs and priorities of administrative reform and human resources development in all of the countries concerned, at the national and sub-national levels. 15

16 Steering Committee The Steering Committee should meet once a year and its functions include: ❶ advice on the development of technical cooperation in administrative improvement and civil service reform ❶ review and evaluation of the programme of work and corresponding budget 16

19 WEBPAGE ❶ The (United Nations Thessaloniki Centre) has developed a web page ❶ This page portrays the general image of the Centre looking at various events, activities and information such as on-going projects, meetings, training activities and publications. 19

20 A thematic PORTAL ❶ The portal, actually under development, will permit a user friendly access to any information available on the Internet, related to public administration reform and public management improvement in CEE and CIS countries. ❶ The portal is compatible to the UNPAN prerequisites and standards. 20

21 UNPAN: THE United Nations Public Administration Network ❶ The functions as an On Line Regional Centre (ORC), providing the UN global PA Network with documents of Public Administration Organization and Reform in the region. 21

22 TRAINING ❶ The team develops a series of e-training modules on local government. ❶ The University of Macedonia has offered the distance learning application. ❶ The material was offered by the, Nairobi based, United Nations Centre for Human Settlements (Habitat). 22

23 TRAINING ❶ Working closely with UNDESA, is preparing a second series of electronic training modules, focusing to legislative executive relations, addressed to CEE and CIS Parliament Members. 23

24 PUBLICATIONS ❶ has taken over the Public Management Forum (PMF) magazine, published until recently by OECD- SIGMA program and our staff are working on the preparation of the 1 st issue, scheduled for July. 24

25 PUBLICATIONS ❶ We have already published, both in hard and electronic copy, two issues of our In Brief news bulletin which disseminates information about current activities. 25

26 PUBLICATIONS ❶ Within the frame of activities, the New York UNDESA staff prepared a book on Reforming the Civil Service for Government Performance: an International Perspective published under UNDESA and logos. 26
