1 1 Extraordinary PART II Section 3 Sub-Section (ii) PUBLISHED BY AUTHROTIY No.250] NEW DELHI, TUESDAY, FEBRUARY 19, 2008/MAGHA 30, 1929 NOTIFICATION New Delhi, the 19 th February, 2008 S.O.382(E).- The following Order made by the President is published for general information:- ORDER Whereas under the provisions of article 82 and article 170 (3) of the Constitution, as amended by the Constitution (Eighty-fourth Amendment) Act, Parliament enacted the Delimitation Act, 2002 (33 of 2002) and a Delimitation Commission has been set up to readjust the division of each State and Union Territory into territorial constituencies for the purpose of elections to the House of the People and to the State Legislative Assemblies on the basis of census figures as ascertained at the census taken in the year 2001 [as envisaged under the Constitution (Eighty-seventh) Amendment Act, 2003]; And whereas, the final orders relating to the Delimitation of Parliamentary and Assembly Constituencies in respect of 25 States and the Union Territories have been made by the Delimitation Commission under Sections 8 and 9 of the Delimitation Act, 2002 (33 of 2002) and were published in the Official Gazettes; And whereas on being satisfied that a situation has arisen where unity and integrity of India is likely to be threatened and there is a serious threat to peace and public order the delimitation exercise in the States of Assam, Arunachal Pradesh, Nagaland and Manipur have been deferred under subsection (1) of Section 10A of the Delimitation Act, 2002 (33 of 2002) vide Orders published in the Gazette of India having numbers S.O. 283(E), S.O. 284(E), S.O.285(E) and S.O.286(E), dated February, 2008 respectively; And whereas under Section 10B of the Delimitation Act, 2002 the final orders made by the Delimitation Commission in respect of the State of Jharkhand have been nullified until the year 2026 in relation to every election to the House of the People or to the Legislative Assembly to be held in that State; And whereas the terms of the Legislative Assemblies of the States of Meghalaya and Tripura are due to expired on 10 th March, 2008 and 19 th March, 2008 respectively, and it is necessary to hold general elections to constitute the new Legislative Assemblies in these States at any time within the said due dates as per the Delimitation of parliamentary and Assembly Constituencies Order, 1976; 8 th

2 2 And whereas the election schedule for general elections to the Legislative Assemblies of Meghalaya and Tripura has been notified by the Election Commission under the Representation of the People Act, 1951 as per the Delimitation of Parliamentary and Assembly Constituencies Order, 1976 for constituting the new Assemblies in the aforesaid States within the stipulated time; Now, therefore, in exercise of the powers conferred by the second proviso to article 82 and the second proviso to clause (3) of article 170 of the Constitution, I, Pratibha Devisingh Patil, President of India, hereby specify- (i) the date of this Order as the date on which readjustments notified by the Delimitation Commission in terms of Sections 8 and 9 of the Delimitation Act, 2002 in respect of the 22 States/Union Territories given in the Delimitation Orders notified by the Delimitation Commission vide respective O.N. Numbers specified against the name of the State/Union Territory in PART-A of the TABLE below shall take effect; and (ii) the 20 th day of March, 2008 as the date on which readjustments notified by the Delimitation Commission in terms of Sections 8 and 9 of the said Act in respect of the remaining 2 States of Tripura and Meghalaya given in the Delimitation Orders notified by the Delimitation Commission vide respective O.N. Numbers specified against the name of the States in PART-B of the TABLE below shall take effect. 3 3 EXTRAORDINARY PART II-Section 3-Sub-section (ii) PUBLISHED BY AUTHORITY No.255 NEW DELHI, THURSDAY, FEBRUARY 21, 2008/PHALGUNA 2, 1929 CORRIGENDUM New Delhi, the 21 st February, 2008 S.O.387(E).-In the English version of the notification of the Government of India in the Ministry of Law and Justice (Legilsative Department), published in the Gazette of India, Extraordinary, Part II, Section 3, Sub-section (ii), dated 19 th February, 2008 vide number S.O.382(E) of the same date, specifying the date on which the new Delimitation Orders notified by the Delimitation Commission under the Delimitation Act, 2002 shall take effect in terms of articles 82 and 170 of the Constitution,- At page 4, line 24, for expired, read expire ; At page 5, line 21, against S.No.2 relating to Pondicherry, in column 4, for Order No.6, O.N.6(E), read Order No.6, O.N.10(E). 4 4 Extraordinary PART II Section 3 Sub-Section (ii) PUBLISHED BY AUTHROTIY No. 1788] NEW DELHI, MONDAY, DECEMBER 22, 2008/PAUSA 1, 1930 NOTIFICATION New Delhi, the 22 nd December, 2008 S.O.2951(E).- The following Order made by the President is published for general information:- ORDER Whereas, on the completion of the Delimitation work in respect of 24 States/Union Territories, a Presidential Order dated 19 th February, 2008 was issued making the delimitation Orders effective from 19 th February, 2008 in all the 22 States/Union Territories, except in the States of Tripura and Meghalaya where the delimitation Orders were made effective from the 20 th March, 2008 vide notification of the Government of India in the Ministry of Law and Justice (Legislative Department) number S.O.382(E), dated 19 th February, 2008; And, whereas, subsequent to the said Presidential Order, the Delimitation Commission has issued a corrigendum O.N.11(E), on 25 th February, 2008 and Order No.56 dated 26 th March, 2008, amending its final Order in respect of the State of Karnataka; And, whereas, the Delimitation Commission has again issued, on different dates, four amendment Orders in respect of the States of West Bengal, Uttar Predesh, Tamil Nadu and National Capital Territory of Delhi, and two corrigenda in respect of the States of Gujarat and Bihar, amending its final orders in respect of those States; And, whereas, the Legislative Department has issued a notification dated 23 rd May, 2008 notifying the cesser of the Delimitation Commission w.e.f ; And whereas, it is expedient in the public interest to specify the date on which the readjustments as modified by the subsequent orders of the Delimitation Commission shall come into effect in respect of the aforesaid seven States; Now, therefore, in exercise of the powers conferred by the Second proviso to Article 82 and the second proviso to clause (3) of article 170 of the Constitution, I, Pratibha Devisingh Patil, President of India, hereby amend the Order published vide notification number S.O.382(E) dated 19 th February, 2008, as under:-
