1 The Clement Chronicle Volume 4 Issue 3, November 2016 Liberals Driving Up Already Bloated Deficit The Liberal government has unveiled a plan to borrow another $32 billion, driving up the deficit well beyond what Canadians were promised in the last election, said Parry Sound-Muskoka MP, Tony Clement. "Since the Prime Minister was elected, the economy hasn t created a single additional full time job, and today, we found out the Liberals are borrowing an extra $32 billion over the next five years with no reason to believe we will get better results," said Clement. Not only has the plan failed, Liberal tax hikes and red tape are making things worse. They cancelled family tax credits for sports and arts classes and cancelled small business tax cuts. Now they are imposing a CPP tax hike and carbon tax that will cost families thousands of dollars every year. They have also introduced new rules on mortgages that will make it harder for Canadians to buy a home. "The Liberals only solution to these problems seems to be to borrow and spend even more money money that will have to be paid back by workers, families, and job creators in Parry Sound-Muskoka and across Canada for many years to come," said Clement. Tony s Remembrance Day Message This year, I had the honour and privilege to attend four Remembrance Day ceremonies across my riding in Dwight, Kearney, Baysville and Parry Sound Muskoka. Remembrance Day marks a day of reflection and a day of gratitude for or all those who served Canada. Let us take this moment to remember those who have fought and those we have lost. We commemorate their courage and bravery, and the ultimate sacrifice that was made in serving our country. Thank you for serving and protecting Canada, and let us continue to forge our values of democracy, freedom and peace. 3 The Results 86% of Survey Responses Call for Referendum on Electoral Reform PARRY SOUND-MUSKOKA, October 14, 2016 The results are in from MP Tony Clement`s mail-out survey on electoral reform and they show that 86 per cent of responses want a referendum. I hope the Liberal government will come to its senses and heed the clear message being sent by Canadians. But as it stands, the ultimate decision will rest with the all-liberal cabinet, and not the people, said MP Clement. MP Clement mailed the questionnaire across the riding in August asking for constituents` input on the Liberal government`s intention to change the voting system without a referendum. A total of 2,372 responses were received with 2,034 in favour of holding a national referendum. "The Liberal government has ruled out letting Canadians have their voices heard through a referendum," said MP Clement. "But my survey indicates Parry Sounders and Muskokans clearly want their say on this important decision. They want to vote. The survey responses will be forwarded to the special committee exploring electoral reform in Ottawa. The national results of the survey, sent out by Conservative MPs, gathered a total of 81,389 responses, with 73,740 (91 per cent) in favour of a referendum. Click on image for more information

4 MP Clement Has Busy Legislative Agenda As Public Safety Critic OTTAWA, October 18, 2016 Parry Sound-Muskoka Member of Parliament, Tony Clement, is honoured to be appointed Official Opposition critic for Public Safety and Emergency Preparedness. The announcement was made by Leader of the Official Opposition, Rona Ambrose, yesterday. It is a priviledge to serve in the shadow cabinet and perform the important work of holding the Liberal government to account in this important role. Our national security is of the upmost importance to Parry Sound and Muskokans, and all Canadians, said MP Clement. From the ever present threat of terrorism to the rising concerns over cyber security, the need to keep our communities safe cannot be understated. In his role as critic, MP Clement will sit on the all-party Public Safety and National Security committee, and play a key role in the Official Opposition`s shadow cabinet. CLICK PHOTO TO VIEW VIDEO Clement Calls on Public Safety Minister to Give New Committee Power to Oversee Security Agencies OTTAWA, November 4, 2016 After this week s Federal Court finding that CSIS broke the law by retaining potentially sensitive electronic data, Official Opposition Public Safety critic, Tony Clement, said the government must ensure the new National Security and Intelligence Committee of Parliamentarians (NSICP) has the investigative powers to do its job. It was positive to hear today that Public Safety Minister Ralph Goodale expects our national security agencies to safeguard Canadians, while at the same time following the rule of law. If he is truly serious about these convictions, a good step would be to undo the multiple investigative roadblocks the government has embedded in Bill C-22, the supporting legislation for NSICP, said Clement. In the last election, the Liberals promised Canadians that they would "create an all-party committee to monitor and oversee the operations of every government department and agency with national security responsibilities." If this oversight committee is going to be put in place, then it is our job as Parliamentarians to make certain it is effective. This week s ruling leaves no doubt that the government needs to keep its election promise to Canadians and deliver a committee that can fully complete its mandate, said Clement, adding that the Conservative Party is currently refining amendments that would give NSICP the appropriate powers to do its job effectively.
