12 KICKED TO THE CURB Ground Campaign CUPE Communications Josie Workman 1400 Kingston Road Scarborough ON M1N 3V3 Dear Councillor Crawford, December 20, 2016 I am writing to you today as a concerned constituent in your ward. I understand that City Council is going to be voting on a motion to contract out residential solid waste collection east of Yonge Street. As my councillor, I am asking that you vote against this motion. Contracting out solid waste collection threatens the livelihood of 500 hard-working men and women in our city. The men and women that collect garbage in Toronto work hard on behalf of the City providing an important service that residents rely on each and every day. They provide quality work and dedication to customer service excellence and efficiency to Torontonians. We should be proud that the City of Toronto provides front-line workers with decent jobs that provide liveable wages that support families. If waste collection is privatized east of Yonge, it will mean 500 men and women will lose these jobs. This is just another example of how our mayor puts the interests of Bay Street ahead of the interests of the city. Contracting out garbage collection will not save any money, we know this already. Instead contracting out solid waste will cost 500 hard men and women their jobs. They will be replaced by low wage workers, with the profits going to CEOs and the people at the top. The City of Toronto should support hard workers and create good jobs instead of rewarding Bay Street cronies who profit from the taxpayers while slashing wages. Councillor Crawford I hope that you are someone who supports the hard-working men and women of this city. Vote against the contracting out of solid waste collection. My vote for you will depend on it. Sincerely, Josie Workman
