1 The AIMs International Section 0 ) The "AIMs International Section" in short... : 175th Anniversary of the FPMs, more than 150 years of AIMs abroad...! Mindful that the AIMs Heritage relays itself abroad since decades through the local presence, the work, Project s follow-up and surely also the commitment of our «montois s civil engineers» and at a time at which the "local" and the "global" merge more and more themselves, we felt here that it was more than important to highlight a few our expatriates (> 9.52 % of the workforce in ) and to reserve them a specific space on our website, this too, in the open-minded and discovery spirit that has always driven our association. A dedicated space thereby facilitating the exchanges and sharing between "confirmed expatriates" and "beginners" or students seeking initial professional experience and/or internships abroad was here also the purpose. Many of you have also asked us to have a clearer picture of our local presence in some countries (f.e. in Morocco, Algeria, Congo, South Africa, ) to facilitate interactions and exchanges, whether they are for professional, meeting or... also for festive issues! The AIMs Heritage abroad : The following chart n SI-1/2 (Updated 06/2015) gives the reader an idea of the geographical distribution of our AIMs civil engineers worldwide. 2 The chart n SI-2/2 below provides an overview of the current continental distribution of our members (Updated 06/2015). Although most of our members are based in the EUs (~ 77%), not less than 23% of our members are found on distant continent. Let us value it! The AIMs world at your fingertips! Besides the "federation", the identification and the activity of our local members, the main task is to facilitate the exchanges of practical information between local members themselves but also between Belgian members and Foreign members. Highlighting the historical and current AIMs footprints abroad through our expatriates and providing the necessary supports to the image of our association is also one of the tasks we would like to aim here. The values abroad are of course those of our association in the broad sense, namely : The Spirit of the AIMs Family ; The Solidarity & Mutual Supports ; The Open-minded Spirit, the Curiosity & the Sharing of the Technical and Engineering Sciences for a Better Life through its promotion ; The Ethics and Civic Engagement ; The Representation & Promotion of the Title of Civil Engineer ;

3 3) And in practice...? : 3.0 ) The "core missions" : Having identified a number of useful "specific tasks" for the above mentioned missions and exchanges needed for this "international adventure", a non-exhaustive "core missions matrix" or "principal local missions" was prepared. 5 "core missions" are identified, namely : Table n SI-1/2 : Table of "Core Missions" or "Principal Local Missions" Administration : This is to identify and manage "dynamically" the local database of foreign AIMs, to prepare and keep in touch "regularly" with them, to ensure the coordination of the data base with the General Secretariat of the AIMs located in MONS, Belgium, to collect and to list the "ABC" that have to be known and that will be needed for future expatriates (Embassies, Visas, Vaccines, Housing, Professional Licenses of Exercise, Credentials, Insurance, Employment Offices,... ), to keep also these information up to date and available to the eventual future expatriates and also to coordinate one "Local Event" per year. Besides, it is also to ensure the efficient collection of the information from others "mission fields" listed above and described below ;

4 Continuous Education : It consists here in the listing and regularly updating of long life learning education opportunities such as seminars, "trainings" and Congresses in order to improve the training of civil engineers in these countries, to develop a number of close contacts with local professional associations (see f.e. "ASM International, "SAE", "ASME", "JSME",... ) that generally propose a large panel of high-tech specialized programs & seminars (Vertical or "Hard Skills") or generic formations (Transversal or "Soft Skills ) and also to synchronize these possibilities with the mission "Administration" described above. The actors involved here may also be required to promote offers of training and seminars of Belgian origins made by the AIMs and/or other AIMs Partner Associations ; Jobs & Careers : This local mission is to identify and provide regularly a list of foreign job opportunities for eventual future expatriates (Beginners and experienced) or any local AIMs searching a career evolution. Conversely, for expatriates who wish to return to Belgium, she/he will also be a point of active contact with our "Employment Unit" located in MONS, Belgium. This local mission also involves a certain number of contacts with local businesses, specific professional organizations, recruiters and "headhunters" of the concerned countries. Recreation & Leisure : This task is perhaps the most enjoyable one, firstly to ensure continuity abroad of the "associative and festive parts" of our Association dear to the MONS s family spirit that we have all experienced during our studies (Meeting & Meals, Holidays AIMs, Event AIMs) and, secondly, to pay close attention to and to highlight to the eyes of our members on the local culture, folklore and attraction sources. The collection of practical information and recommendations made available to our members wishing to travel abroad (Culture, Folklore, Music Festivals, Film, Theatre, Spots, Place to Be, "Do not miss"...) is also covered by this local mission ; Support to the University : It is not uncommon for a number of students in the recent years and in the context of their search of industrial internship abroad or in order to achieve a year of experience in foreign country to ask the AIMs to support them in their demarches (f.e. through request addressed to AIMs active in abroad companies, ). By the current increase in the duration of the industrial internship, the AIMs is also aware that it can assist usefully requesting students through its deep industrial network. On the other hand, a number of AIMs also perform functions of teaching and research in various foreign Universities. So this last field is also dedicated to maintain these contacts and to better respond to any requests that would result.

5 3.0 ) Our local relay : To effectively implement all these "local tasks ", the use of a voluntary network of "Ambassadors" and/or "Local Contacts" has been developed and will be fed regularly by new players wanting to be involved and respecting their main interests but also and their ease to volunteer for these main or core missions. Each "Ambassador" or "Local Correspondent" then invests her or himself in one or a number of "core missions" described in the above missions grid, and this, according to their aspirations and practical possibilities or schedule. Our main aim is certainly here that each "Ambassador"/"Correspondent" involves her or himself within these goals in the most possible natural and free manner(s). This structure has been deliberately designed for "variable geometry ". The "Ambassadors"/"Local Correspondents" also have the opportunity to propose and submit to our Council of Administration (CA) or Board located in MONS, Belgium, a number of local Projects that would take their heart. 4) Become a "Ambassador"/"Local Correspondent" of AIMs abroad : If the taste tells you to take care of one of the "core missions" listed inside the above grid, do not hesitate to express your interest to The AIMs International Section ( aims.international@umons.ac.be) or just sending your interest to the General Secretariat of the AIMs (Manager Database : Nathalie S LE, Phone : , Fax : or aims.bd@umons.ac.be). After a short presentation of your background and your interests, the "Ambassadors" and/or "Local Contacts" will be appointed by the Council of Administration (CA) for a term of three years, automatically renewable without limitation in time. Name, country of origin as well as the chosen "core missions" followed will be then published on the Website of the "International Section" allowing the interested reader to know countries and core missions in which "Ambassador"/"Local Correspondent" are active and therefore on which area(s) the reader will have the opportunity to obtain information or relevant materials.
