1 Global Bamboo and Rattan Congress 2018 Session Proposal Guidelines 25-27, June 2018 Theme: Enhancing South-South Cooperation for Green Development Through Bamboo and Rattan s Contributions to the UN SDGs The first-ever Global Bamboo and Rattan Congress 2018 (BARC2018) will be held from the 25th to 27th June 2018 in Beijing, P.R. China. The International Bamboo and Rattan Organisation (INBAR) and the State Forestry Administration of China (SFA) warmly welcome any organisations working with bamboo or rattan or in other relevant fields to apply to organise a session at BARC2018. INBAR is currently searching for partners to co-organise over 30 parallel and thematic sessions at BARC2018, particularly in the thematic areas of poverty alleviation, energy efficiency, sustainable housing and construction, efficient use of natural resources, climate change mitigation, and ecosystem management. Proposed parallel session topics include: Renewable Energy and Bamboo Biofuels South-South Cooperation for Landscape Restoration Bamboo for Climate Change Mitigation South-South Cooperation on Climate Change The Belt and Road Initiative Certification of Bamboo and Rattan Resources Standards for Bamboo and Rattan Bamboo and Rattan Technology and Innovation Utilizing Bamboo and Rattan for Poverty Alleviation Sustainable Construction with Bamboo Valuing Nature Capital/Green GDP NOTE: Exact session titles and topics will be negotiated with co-organisers. Why Participate: Participation in BARC2018 offers valuable opportunities to showcase the successful initiatives, innovations, and development solutions of session organisers, and helps ensure that their priorities are reflected in the global conversation on bamboo and rattan. International, Multilateral Platform Programme Networking Partnerships Publicity Access to Cutting- Edge Research Most of INBAR s Member States are developing countries, making BARC2018 a unique platform for South-South cooperation. Host parallel sessions and thematic events in their area of expertise. Participate in the drafting of a specific bamboo and rattan action plan for South-South and trilateral cooperation on climate change and the UN SDGs. Meet with policymakers, academics, industry leaders, and other VIPs for lobbying and networking purposes. Lay the foundation for future collaborations and partnerships. With international, national, and local media outlets in attendance, participation in BARC2018 is a valuable opportunity for media exposure. Receive recognition at events and in promotional materials before, during, and after BARC2018. Attend the launch of new publications on bamboo and rattan resources. Access technical and scientific expertise through programmatic engagement and interaction with leading experts. 3 Acceptance/Rejection Notification Deadline* 28th February, 2018 *Session proposals are reviewed and evaluated as they are received; session co-organisers will receive a response after BARC2018 Organising Committee has evaluated the proposal. General Guidelines: Any organisation working with bamboo and rattan or in relevant fields is welcome to submit a proposal. The proposed session must address some aspects of the Congress theme: Enhancing South-South Cooperation for Green Development through Bamboo and Rattan s Contributions to the UN SDGs. Session proposals should include basic information on session organiser(s), objectives, content, format, and proposed speakers. Proposed sessions should be 1.5 to 2 hours in length. We recommend each speaker be given minutes for his/her presentation. Sessions should be conducted in English or Chinese. Simultaneous translation services in English and Chinese should be available for participants. Selection Criteria Session proposals will be reviewed and evaluated by the BARC2018 Organising Committee. Incomplete proposals will not be reviewed. Primary consideration will be given to relevance to the Congress theme. The committee will also consider the scientific quality of the proposed session, the involvement of INBAR Member States, and the geographic and gender diversity of proposed session presenters. Proposals will be evaluated as they are received, so we strongly recommend that proposals be submitted as soon as possible. The decision of the BARC2018 Organising Committee regarding acceptance of proposed sessions is final. The format, content, and agenda of sessions at BARC2018 are subject to approval by the BARC2018 Organising Committee. Session co-organisers may be asked to revise all aspects of their proposed session(s). If you have not received an notification by 28th February 2018, please contact Ms. Nura Demuyakor via at Responsibilities of Session Co-organisers Parallel sessions are collaborative efforts between INBAR and session co-organisers. INBAR and co-organisers will combine their expertise to define the topic and agenda for each session, identify, and invite key speakers and participants. INBAR will provide logistical support, while session co-organisers should expect to cover participant-related.
