Registration of land for keeping buffalo Controlled and regulated by the National Department of Agriculture, Directorate Veterinary Services Act 35 of 1984 (Regulation 20A of the Animal Diseases Regulations) Registration requirements: 1. Certificate of Adequate Enclosure/ P3 Exemption 2. Approval from applicable Environmental Affairs office indicating the suitability of the property for the introduction of buffalo. 3. Complete relevant application form Application for the registration of land for the keeping of buffalo 4. Map showing exact extent of land applied for. Submit at your local State Veterinarian

10 4. Registration of clean buffalo properties (2) Process that follows: Step 1 - State Veterinarian inspect the property focus on Bio-security. Clean areas vs. FMD and Corridor disease control areas) In clean areas standard CAE applies. In FMD and Corridor disease control areas: Perimeter fence (inside) electrified with two strands Recommendation three strands on both sides Properties in FMD buffer zone Double electrified game fence (on both sides electrified) 5m apart, 100m when bordering onto infected herd Step 2 - Local State veterinarian recommend registration to Provincial Director: Veterinary services Step 3 - Provincial Director recommend registration to National Department.
