The delegation arrived Subang International Airport, Kuala Lumpur, at 7:35 pm local standard time. They were welcomed by Myanmar Ambassador to Malaysia U Saw Tun and officials at the airport. They arrived Sunway Lagoon Resort Hotel in Subang Jaya, the venue of the meeting, at 8.30 pm. The minister received his Vietnamese counterpart Mr Nguyan Manh Cam, who is there to attend the meeting, at the hotel at 6.30 pm on 22 July. Ambassador U Saw Tun and Minister Counsellor U Kyaw Tint Swe of Myanmar Embassy in Tokyo were also present. Separate meetings of ASEAN high-level officials and ASEAN Standing Committee members were held on 21 July. The Meeting 6/30 of ASEAN Standing Committee was held at the hotel at 9 am on 21 July. Representatives of Myanmar led by Minister Counsellor U Kyaw Tint Swe attended it together with representatives of other member countries.

2 Chairman of the 30th ASEAN Ministerial Meeting Minister of Foreign Affairs of Malaysia Datuk Abdullah bin Haji Ahmad Badawi and Secretary-General of ASEAN Dato Ajit Singh delivered addresses. (2) Special Refresher Course No 28 for Basic Education Teachers opened YANGON, 24 JULY Chairman of the Myanmar Education Committee Secretary-1 of the State Law and Order Restoration Council Lt-Gen Khin Nyunt addressed the opening of Special Refresher Course No 28 for Basic Education Teachers in Nawarat Hall of the Central Institute of Civil Service in Hlegu Township this morning. (3) Simultaneous development of agricultural and industrial sectors stressed YANGON, 24 July Myanma Industrial Development Committee held its 14th meeting at the Ministry of Agriculture and Irrigation today with an address by Secretary-2 of the State Law and Order Restoration Council Lt-Gen Tin Oo. Collective coordination and efforts are being made for Myanmar industrial development, he said adding MIDC has laid down 15 work guidelines at its previous meeting held on 23 May. Simultaneous advancerment of the agriculture and industrial sectors is important, he pointed out, saying MIDC is striving continually for progress of national industries. Manpower, financial power and techniques are basic requirements for industrial development, he noted, stressing the need to draft systematic plans and to effectively implement them for rapid growth of national industries. MIDC, Myanma Industrial Development Work Committee and the respective committees must assess their accomplishments and seek means to remedy their deficiencies in implementing the tasks sectorwise, he said. Chairman of MIDC Minister for Agriculture and Irrigation- Lt-Gen Myint Aung said MIDC has set up industrial zones, opened the Myanma Industrial Development Bank and organized industrial fairs during the two years since its formation. Ministers have been assigned duties to, supervise and look into the requirements of their respective industrial zones, he noted.

3 Industrialists are fulfilling local requirements with their available materials, he stated, indicating the advancement the sector is achieving at present. He vowed that the committee will strive for industrial development in accord with the guidance of Chairman of the State Law and Order Restoration Council Commander-in-Chief of Defence Services Senior General Than Shwe. Chairman of MIDWC Minister for Industry-2 Maj-Gen Kyaw Than briefed the meeting on accomplishments and requirements committee wise. Secretary of MIDC Deputy Minister for Industry-2 U Thein Tun explained to the meeting on progress In making arrangements to hold Technology Myanmar 97 and Chairman of Myanma Industrial (Production) Co Ltd Dr Myo Thant Tin on finds during his field tours at industrial zones. (4) Minister for Forestry receives Ambassador of Pakistan Minister for Forestry Lt-Gen Chit Swe received Ambassador of the Islamic Republic of Pakistan Mr Javed Hafiz at International Business Centre this afternoon. Present also were heads of department under the ministry. (5) Minister for Hotels and Tourism receives President of MCG Corporation Co Ltd Minister for Hotels and Tourism Lt-Gen Kyaw Ba received President of MCG Corporation Co Ltd Mr Koki Onodera at his office this morning. Managing Director of Hotels and Tourism Services U Soe Thein and officials were also present.

4 (6) Minister receives Chairman of Corporate Centre Sdn Bhd Minister for Mines Lt-Gen Kyaw Min received Chairman of Corporate Centre Sdn Bhd of Malaysia Dato Hj Onn Mahmud and party at his office this morning. Also present were Deputy Minister U Hlaing Win and departmental officials. (7) Vietnamese trade delegation arrives YANGON, 24 July A trade delegation led by Minister of Trade of the Socialist Republic of Vietnam Mr Le Van Triet arrived here by air this evening. The delegation was welcomed at the airport by Minister for Commerce Lt-Gen Tun Kyi, Ambassador of the Socialist Republic of Vietnam Mr Tran Viet Tan, advisers, directors-general and officials under the ministry. (8) Minister for Home Affairs receives Ambassador of Australia Minister for Home Affairs Lt-Gen Mya Thin received Ambassador of Australia Ms Lyndall Alexandra Mclean at his office this morning. Deputy Minister for Home Affairs Col Tin Hlaing, Director-General of General Administration Department U Aung Thein, Director-General of Bureau of Special Investigation U Than Myint, Director-General of Prisons Department U Kyaw Tun, Deputy Director-General of Myanmar Police Force Police Brig-Gen Hla Tun and Head of Office of the Ministry Captain Man Maung were also present. (9) K 55,000 donated to Training School for Children YANGON, 24 July This wives of the military attaches in Myanmar and those of high-ranking Tatmadaw officers today donated K 55,000 to the Training School for Children, Shwegondine, of the Social Welfare Department, Ministry of Social Welfare, Relief and Resettlement.

5 Also present at the ceremony at the school were Director-General of Social Welfare Department U Than Po and departmental officials. First, on behalf of donors, Dr Khin Win Shwe, wife of Secretary-1 of the State Law and Order Restoration Council Lt-Gen Khin Nyunt, spoke about the donation. Director-General U Than Po accepted the donation. Later, he explained to the donors the functions and activities of the department. The wives of the military attaches and those of high-ranking Tatmadaw officers toured the school.
