2 Project Description To collect, organize and automate all records pertaining to municipal boundary changes within Cook County from its incorporation to present day 2

3 Why Do This Project? Agencies dependent on accurate Municipal & Unincorporated boundaries: Animal Control, Assessor, Building and Zoning, Clerk, Clerk of the Circuit Court, Department of Homeland Security and Emergency Management, Department of Transportation and Highways, E911, Environmental Control, Sherriff s Department, Zoning Board of Appeals 135 municipalities within Cook County Census Bureau - Annual Survey (CBAS) submissions for 103 municipalities 3

4 Why Do This Project? Historically valuable information available, however the information was not easily retrievable Multiple sources of disparate information No GIS data prior to 1987, minimal automation of other records Most documentation in paper format; some on microfilm 4

13 Agencies and Source Material Recorder of Deeds: Original source of most Municipal boundary documents as required by law. (65 ILCS 5/7-1-40) (from Ch. 24, par ) Sec After any territory is annexed to or disconnected from any municipality, the chief executive officer of the municipality or of the county board, as the case may be, whenever not otherwise provided in this Code, shall within 90 days file for recordation, in the recorder's office of the county where the territory is situated and also in the county where the annexing and divided municipalities are situated, a certified copy of the ordinance, court order or resolution of annexation or disconnection, together with an accurate map of the territory annexed or disconnected.
