STYRELF ECO 2 Solutions for warm mix asphalts

CONTEXT Since the mid 1990s, a range of techniques has been developped to reduce the mixing and laying temperatures and energy of manufacturing of Hot Mix Asphalt (HMA). Typical Warm Mix Asphalt (WMA) is applied at a temperature around C lower than equivalent HMA. Less energy is involved and during the paving operations, the temperature in the mix is lower, resulting in lower emissions, lower exposure and improved conditions of the crew. This lower exposure supports the goal of the European asphalt industry to reduce bitumen fumes during paving operations. This is in that respect that TOTAL Bitumen has developed an entire range of STYRELF ECO² solution STYRELF ECO² - Solutions for warm mix asphalts - ENG

APPLICATIONS STYRELF ECO² - Solutions for warm mix asphalts - ENG

APPLICATIONS STYRELF ECO 2 binders are especially designed for the manufacturing of warm mix asphalts As any binder of our STYRELF range, STYRELF ECO 2 binders meet the requirements of EN 14023: 2010 (Bitumen and bituminous binders - Specifications for polymer modified bitumen) Warm mixes manufactured with STYRELF ECO 2 binder show as good mechanical performances as those of hot mixes and are consequently recommended for the same laying applications : base course binder course surface course STYRELF ECO² - Solutions for warm mix asphalts - ENG

APPLICATIONS EXAMPLE OF REQUIREMENTS France : In 2013, 10% of the total asphalt production is WMA, pushed by authorities and USIRF: «The given USIRF recommends the systematic use of WMA [ ]. The USIRF reminds that the stimulation of the use of WMA is one of the objective of the voluntary agreament of actors in design, construction [ ] signed in March 25, 2009.» Germany : Only WMA of a temperature of C is allowed for tunnel paving Czech republic : In 2013, a specific tender for a tunnel in Prague prescribed WMA (requirement from Administration) HMA is proscribed STYRELF ECO² - Solutions for warm mix asphalts - ENG

WHY CHANGE FOR A STYRELF ECO 2 BINDER? STYRELF ECO² - Solutions for warm mix asphalts - ENG

WHY CHANGE FOR A STYRELF ECO 2 BINDER? CONTRACTORS & MIXING PLANT MANAGERS STYRELF ECO 2 binders are «ready to use» bituminous binders for warm mix asphalt No modification of asphalt plant process needed Zero investment No additional costs for maintenance No modification of mixes formula Compatible with a wide range of mixes formulas and laying settings: base, binder and surface layers, reclaimed asphalt pavement (RAP) content up to 50 %, different kinds of aggregates No extra laboratory work needed on mixes recipes Handling similar to a conventional penetration grade No specific training needed for staff Application at lower temperature Longer haul distances STYRELF ECO² - Solutions for warm mix asphalts - ENG

WHY CHANGE FOR A STYRELF ECO 2 BINDER? CONTRACTORS & MIXING PLANT MANAGERS STYRELF ECO 2 solution consists in a specific product formulation reducing handling temperatures up to 40 C: at the mixing plant, for manufacturing Reduction of energy consumption of the mixing plant (up to 31 %)» Improved productivity and competitiveness Reduction of gaseous organic compounds (up to 36 %)» mitigation of olfactory impact of the mixing plant» contribution to conformity on the road, at laying and compaction Quicker linking between laying of the successive courses» Saving time, improved productivity No fumes» Relevant solution for works in confine environment (tunnels, car parks)» Working conditions improved for the staff Lower perceived temperature» Working conditions improved for the staff STYRELF ECO² - Solutions for warm mix asphalts - ENG

WHY CHANGE FOR A STYRELF ECO 2 BINDER? OVERSEEING AUTHORITIES STYRELF ECO 2 binders meet the requirements of EN 14023: 2010 Equivalent performances (compacity, water sensitivity, rutting) to those of a hot mix asphalt Sustainable and successful solution STYRELF ECO 2 solution consists in a specific product formulation reducing manufacturing and handling (laying, compaction) temperatures up to 40 C Quicker linking between installation of the successive layers Saving in time, improved productivity Earlier re-opening to traffic Reduced disruption to the travelling public STYRELF ECO² - Solutions for warm mix asphalts - ENG

WHY CHANGE FOR A STYRELF ECO 2 BINDER? MANAGEMENT & INSTALLATION STAFF STYRELF ECO 2 binders consist in a specific product formulation reducing up to 40 C: installation temperatures (laying and compaction) No fumes Lower perceived temperature» Working conditions improvement for laying staff manufacturing temperatures (at the mixing plant) reduction of greenhouse gases (GHG) emissions (up to 30 %)» Contribution to the environmental commitments of management STYRELF ECO² - Solutions for warm mix asphalts - ENG

WHY CHANGE FOR A STYRELF ECO 2 BINDER? TO SUM UP ENVIRONMENTAL Save energy during the asphalt manufacturing and laying process Reduce greenhouse gases (GHG) emissions during asphalt manufacturing (-30%) Reduce gaseous organic compound (VOC) emissions during laying and compaction (-35%) PAVING No investment at the asphlat mix plant Extension of the pavement season/ night working Longer haul distance Less effort during compaction Improved productivity Higher RAP incorporation at reduced temperature WELFARE OF WORKER AND NEIGHBOURING COMMUNITIES Reduced HAP (even if HMA is already below the acceptable exposure limits) and fumes Improve comfort and workability for hand work STYRELF ECO² - Solutions for warm mix asphalts - ENG

WHY CHANGE FOR A STYRELF ECO 2 BINDER? A MORE ENVIRONMENTAL-FRIENDLY SOLUTION APPROVED An ECO-EFFICIENT LABEL Introduced in 2009 in Europe, Total Ecosolutions is a flagship program to promote smarter, more frugal energy consumption. It offers our customers innovative solutions that perform above market environmental standards, by curbing natural resource use and/or environmental impact while providing the same level of service. The TOTAL Ecosolution LABEL Total Ecosolutions products and services deliver the same performance as most other available products and services, but offer the added benefit of reducing consumption of energy, water and other resources and/or reducing environmental impact.» Label Award date: march Guidelines Version 4» Label Term: December 2018» Geographical Scope: Europe For any question or to learn more about thetotal Ecosolutions program and the labeled products and services, go to: STYRELF ECO² - Solutions for warm mix asphalts - ENG
