3 Sustainability Advisor Laura White (Albury Campus) Hey guys, I m Laura and I m your Sustainability Advisor for our campus! Basically, my role involves encouraging environmentally friendly behaviour within the residences and running sustainability themed events and activities. Some of these events include: O Week Market Day Ride To Work Day Tree Planting Day Tweed Bike Ride I work closely with CSU Green and Res Life to spread the word of environmental sustainability and let everyone know about current and new sustainability initiatives targeting students living on campus. I am also in charge of ensuring that we are all adhering to the sustainability practices around campus and working out where we could do a little better. Don t ever hesitate to contact me if you need some help doing your part, or if you have any ideas of how we could be better as a university, let me know! 2

5 Tree Planting Day Help us give back to the environment and come plant some trees! Date: Time: Place: Wednesday 17 th May 10AM until 12PM Meet at Car Park 9. We will be planting between Building 670 (Dentistry & Oral Health Clinic) and Thurgoona Drive Followed by a Pizza Lunch at 12pm! 4

8 Greenify Your Life 10 Tips for Being Environmentally Sustainable Give Up Bottled Water Not only does this reduce waste, but it s also loads cheaper for you! Green Your Transportation Cycle, walk, carpool, or use public transport. This will definitely reduce fuel spending! Bring Your Own Shopping Bags Reduce plastics waste by bringing your own bags when you go shopping. Buy Locally & Eat Seasonally Support local farms by choosing Australian Grown. This reduces transportation, congestion, and pollution Use the Cold Cycle Use the cold cycle when washing your clothes. Reduces energy and cleans your clothes just as well. 7

9 6 Green Your Personal Care When it comes to personal hygiene, use organic products with natural ingredients. 7 Conserve Water Reduce shower times, shut off the tap while brushing your teeth, & delay washing your clothes until you have a full load. 8 Dispose Waste Correctly Make sure you know what goes in which bin: is it recycling, compost, or garbage? 9 Buy Used or E-Books As well as being much cheaper, it also reduces paper waste and pollution caused by printing. 10 Rug Up Wear an extra jumper or grab another blanket before resorting to the heater 8

10 Design Our Jumpers! Entries Close 29 th September We are running a Student Jumper Design Competition! To be eligible you need to be studying a Health and Rehab Science and have paid membership. There is no limit of entries, which will be accepted at any time. Prizes are available for 1st and 2nd place. For the template, contact Emily Maher or send the committee an . Please scan and completed designs or contact Emily Maher to hand in a hard copy. 11 The G and Health and Rehab Club have joined together to host the first State of Origin for Come along, enjoy a cheap feed, have some fun with your mates, and yell at the big screen! If your team doesn t win, you could still be a winner in one of the raffles. More details to come 10
