AQUACELL PRODUCT BROCHURE - ISSUE 2

AQUACELL Quick release sample tract for easy cleaning The sampler module (common to all Aquacell models) takes representative samples of wastewater from an open (non-pressurised) source Samples are discharged from the sampler module into either a single container or a bottler depending on the sampler variant chosen The bottler s transparent distributor dome lets you watch samples being deposited in bottles

THE SYSTEM Embodied in every Aquacell wastewater sampler is the tried and tested Aquamatic Air Pump Sample Extraction System. Whether portable or stationary the performance is the same. All Aquacell samplers are designed to sample heavily contaminated wastewater such as crude sewage reliably. Aquacell is even used to sample raw sewage sludge. Easy to use and maintain Everything about the Aquacell is designed to minimize operator burden. Even users with no previous experience of wastewater sampling will soon become fully proficient in operating the Aquacell. Reliability assured With minimal moving parts and vulnerable electrical / electronic parts protected within a sealed humidity controlled enclosure, the Aquacell is designed to operate reliably for many years even in the most arduous conditions. Aquacell meets the requirements of the international standard for wastewater samplers ISO It s important to suspend the intake hose in a position where a reliable, repeatable, representative sample can be extracted. The intake hose support bracket shown here is supplied with every Aquacell S2 and is available as an option with Aquacell P2. Optional Ancillary Signal Connections Remote control input The sampler can be controlled using a signal from a pump (which pumps the wastewater) or other device, which produces an event related signal. Flow Input Any flowmeter with either an integrated or instantaneous flow output can be connected to the sampler to produce flow proportional samples. Sample Acquired Output A contact closes each time a sample enters the sampler. Sampler Malfunction Output A contact opens each time any one of 11 fault conditions occur. Optional computer interface Aquacell s built in event logger and temperature logger (if sample temperature monitoring is specified) can be downloaded to your PC or suitable hand held computer if you specify the RS 232 interface with the sampler. 16 events relating to the samplers operation are logged including: when the program is started / stopped when individual samples are taken when the bottler (if fitted) is incremented when fault conditions occur Interchangeability As every Aquacell sampler is centred around a common sampler module, there are a number of opportunities available to change from one model to another, even between portable and stationary ranges. For example, a stationary sampler, mainly employed to sample a factory final effluent, could be periodically redeployed on a portable basis, by removing and re-configuring the sampler module, in an investigative / troubleshooting role.

AQUACELL P2 Aquacell P2-COMPACT in use above a manhole. Its small size means that it will comfortably fit down most manholes where the application requires it (and regulations permit). P2-COMPACT PORTA The shape of the Aquacell P2-COMPACT makes it stable to transport. Several samplers will fit into the boot of a small car. Aquacell P2- MULTIFORM is ergonomically designed, so carrying 2 machines to the point of deployment is quite practical. Aquacell P2 COOLBOX breaks down into 2 separate parts for ease of transportation. COOLBOX base with lid removed to gain access to the sample container and the two cooling elements. When super-compactness combined with uncompromised sampling performance is required, the Aquacell P2-COMPACT is the ideal solution useful for regulators and others where samplers have to be distributed to a number of sites. The Aquacell P2-COMPACT provides the user with a 5 litre composite sample contained in its low profile, easy-clean sample container. Front access means that sample retrieval can be done without disturbing either the sampler or it s intake hose. With a total volume of under 0.05m 3, the Aquacell P2 COMPACT is less than half the size of most comparable portable samplers. The Aquacell P2-COMPACT fits into spaces where other samplers just won t go.

BLE SAMPLER CHOICES P2-COOLBOX E32 Compliant P2-MULTIFORM Shown with a 12x1 litre P.E.T. bottler The portable sampler with the practical cooling facility. Samples are kept cool in a highly insulated cool box containing pre-frozen cooling elements. The Aquacell P2-COOLBOX is designed to operate at remote sites where the sample must be kept cool but there is no power availability. It makes a very practical alternative to installing a stationary sampler with sample refrigeration, along with the potentially expensive mains power supply. The period over which the sample is kept cool (0-5deg C), is typically 5 days. The multiple sampler user requiring 24 hour composite samples from various sites, is therefore able to distribute samplers around the sites during the day before the sample is required, and collect them again during the day after the sample has been taken. Aquacell P2-COOLBOX is fully compliant with the UK Environment Agency specification E32, Automatic Sampling Equipment for the Urban Waste Water Treatment Regulation. The sampler can be supplied with a sample temperature monitoring facility, which will display average and actual temperatures. Additionally the sampler can be fitted with an RS232 computer download facility, which will enable spot temperatures logged throughout the sample routine to be accessed, in addition to the samplers event log. This is the versatile member of the Aquacell P2 family. The Aquacell P2-MULTIFORM will accommodate a choice of 4 sample collection vessel options (See SAMPLE COLLECTION VESSEL CHOICES), where changing from one option to the other is a very simple operation. The open aluminium frame structure of the Aquacell P2-MULTIFORM provides the user with close visual contact with the sampling operation. Anyone familiar with samplers will appreciate the benefit of actually being able to see a sample being deposited correctly into its container before leaving the sampler to its own devices Power Options Aquacell P2 can be customised to accommodate most power requirements. A choice of battery and mains powered samplers is available. Simply, make your selection from the options given in the price list.

AQUACELL S2 S2-W S2-R STATION S2-K /S2-KH Wall mounted sampler for indoor or outdoor* use. The sampler is shown with a 10 litre container, which suspends beneath the sampler and is instantly accessible. This is the simplest of the Aquacell S2-W configurations. In common with every model in the Aquacell S2 range, the Aquacell S2-W can be used with any one of the sample collection vessel options. The sampler has a lockable front cover. *This model does not have any frost protection. S2-KH Floor mounted kiosk-based sampler for indoor or outdoor use. The Aquacell S2-KH incorporates a fan circulated heater to provide frost protection for stored sample(s). Sample refrigeration This is particularly important for biologically active wastewater. The sample collection vessel is contained within a refrigerated lockable housing. Samples are stored at a temperature between 0 and 5 C to minimise degradation during the storage period between sample extraction and analysis. A digital thermometer, monitoring housing temperature, is mounted on the door of the housing. This also features a max. / min. temperature reading so a retrospective check can be kept on the housing temperature. The refrigerated housing is automatically defrosted. Kiosk-based samplers 4 samplers in the range are kiosk-based. The sampler module is contained within a robust glass reinforced polyester kiosk. The kiosk provides good weather protection and is suitable for most climates (please note, however, the recommended use statements for each sampler, before choosing a sampler for your particular application). The kiosk door features a locking handle so you have the choice of locking it or not as required. When locked the kiosk provides a high level of security. There is a considerable amount of free space within the kiosk, which can often be utilized to mount peripheral equipment. A flow meter, for example can be easily mounted on one of the special purpose equipment mounting pads within the kiosk and as well as being conveniently close to the sampler for electrical connection purposes, the flow meter will also benefit from the protection afforded by the kiosk.

E32 Compliant S2-RK32 Floor mounted kiosk-based sampler incorporating sample refrigeration, for indoor or outdoor use. The Aquacell S2-RK32 features temperature conditioning and is fully compliant with the UK Environment Agency specification E32, NOTES Automatic Sampling Equipment for the Urban Waste Water Treatment Regulation. Battery back up If it is essential that sampling is not interrupted by a power failure, the sampler can be specified with an integral float charged battery. Complete wastewater monitoring systems Aquamatic have many distributors, both in the UK and abroad, chosen for their total system capability. If you require more than just a sampler, let us know and we will be happy to put you in touch with the appropriate expertise. Prerequisites for installing an Aquacell S2 sampler General 1. The sampler should not be situated in a classified hazardous area. 2. The sampler should be installed as close to the sampling point as possible to minimise cross contamination between successive samples. 3. When siting the sampler, consideration should be given to the possibility that direct solar radiation could cause the sampler to rise above its specified maximum temperature. If this potential exists then solar screening should be provided. 4. The sampler s intake hose should be installed so that it is self-draining. A single high point is permitted (such as a channel wall), as the sample tract is open between samples. 5. Choose a sampling point where you can be sure that the wastewater is well mixed downstream of a measuring flume is ideal Wall A E D C E A 745 A E B E A 50 min 460 Intake 1) RS232 Interface A terminal box is provided with a flying lead carrying the ancillary signal connections plus a connector / cable for connection to the RS232 communication port on the computer (not supplied by Aquamatic) used to download the samplers data loggers. 2) Side entry for cables and intake hose can be arranged if this is more convenient. Holes should be suitably drilled and glanded. 3) Flow meters and other small items of equipment can be mounted inside the kiosk. Raised pads on each side 6. For convenience of operation / maintenance, a standing area should be provided in front of the sampler. 7. The sampler should be positioned such that the intake level is approximately 1,200mm above the standing area 8. Intake level should be above top water level to avoid the possibility of siphoning. 9. A suitable electrical supply should be provided see TECHNICAL SPECIFICATION. Optional Ancillary signal connection (fitted) 10. If more than one peripheral equipment is required to be connected to the sampler then a junction box (not supplied by Aquamatic) will need to be incorporated to split the signals from / to the sampler s ancillary signal cable from / to each peripheral. (If the sampler only connects to one peripheral, e.g. a flowmeter, then the cable can be wired direct). 745 Central drain hole - gravity discharge (samplers fitted with Bottler connection, self-emptying) Suggested kiosk base drilling information Hole Dia. Function A 13 4 drain holes B 75 Intake hose conduit C 75 Power cable conduit D 75 Signal cable conduit E 13 4 x M12 fixing bolt holes of the kiosk and the inside rear face of the kiosk are all suitable for this purpose. Drill 3.5mm pilot holes not more than 12mm deep and use No. 8 self-tapping screws to mount equipment. 4) The kiosk is supplied undrilled so that the installer is able to optimize hole positions to suit the installation see Suggested kiosk base drilling information 5) A flat, horizontal mounting base (typically a 100mm thick concrete pad) should be provided for the kiosk, preferably with a standing area in front. 11.If peripheral equipment is not local to the sampler i.e. able to be terminated directly to the sampler s 1.5 metre long ancillary signal cable, then one or more signal isolators (not supplied by Aquamatic) mounted local to the sampler will need to be connected in line with the sampler s input(s) / output(s) to protect the sampler from damaging transients Optional 2 x 4.5 litre self - emptying polypropylene bottler 12.The self-emptying bottler is provided with an outlet, through which the discarded samples are discharged. When installing the sampler, choose a level such that a gravity discharge can be established. The discharge pipe should be fabricated using 50mm outside diameter UPVC rainwater pipe (with the exception of the Aquacell S2-W which should be piped in 56mm outside diameter Marley pipe)

SAMPLE COLLECTION VESSEL CHOICES Any of the collection vessels below can be used with any model in the Aquacell S2 range. Single container options Often a single composite sample is all that is required, for say, routine effluent charge monitoring purposes and Aquacell offers a choice of 2 containers. 25 litre polyethylene container The container has a removable top disc which makes it easy to clean. 10 litre polypropylene container Ideal when used with the Aquacell S2-W. The container suspends conveniently beneath the sampler. The 10 litre container is essential for E32 compliance when used with the Aquacell S2-RK32 The container has a removable lid which makes it easy to clean. Multiple container options When a more detailed look at a wastewater profile is required it is necessary to fragment the sample and distribute it into separate containers, each representing a specific time period. Aquacell offers 5 bottlers for this purpose. When samples need to be taken continually but not necessarily analysed, Aquacell offers the self-emptying bottler. 12 x 0.7 litre glass bottler Screw top glass bottles are especially useful when testing for trace elements. 12 x 1litre P.E.T. bottler Screw top low cost bottles. Recyclable bottles use once and throw away! 24 x 1litre polypropylene bottler Open top easy-clean containers. 4 x 5 litre polyethylene bottler Screw top bottles with carrying handle. This bottler is often used as a 4 day bottler with each of the 4 bottles representing successive 24 hour periods in a 4 day sampling program (Note - sample refrigeration will be needed in the case of biologically active wastewater) 4 x 4.5 litre glass bottler Screw top glass bottles are especially useful when testing for trace elements. This bottler is often used as a 4 day bottler with each of the 4 bottles representing successive 24 hour periods in a 4 day sampling program (Note - sample refrigeration will be needed in the case of biologically active wastewater) 2 x 4.5 litre self-emptying polypropylene bottler A radical concept to acquire composite samples each day WITHOUT THE NEED TO ATTEND SITE. It works as follows - One of the 2 containers empties each morning prior to commencement of the day s sample routine, whilst the other container retains the previous days composite sample. In this way the previous day s composite sample is always available should it be required for analysis The sample containers empty by tipping out their contents, thus avoiding any blockage potential. The vigorous scouring action, which occurs when the wastewater is tipped out of its container, ensures that a minimal residue remains. Cross contamination is therefore minimal. The discarded composite sample is discharged through a waste pipe under gravity back to its source. Can be used with Aquacell P2-MULTIFORM
