1 GREEN PARTNERSHIP PROGRAM OVERVIEW

2 THE GREEN PARTNERSHIP PROGRAM DOING OUR PART FOR THE PLANET Fairmont Hotels & Resorts is committed to responsible tourism and operational sustainability. Nearly 20 years ago, we pioneered the Fairmont Green Partnership, a comprehensive program that continues to minimize our properties impact on the planet. In fact, over a century ago, our company was founded on an enduring connection to the land and communities where we do business. Environmental stewardship influences our daily business decisions about operations, partnerships, renovations, employee training and expectations of vendors. Because the environment isn t just something that s out there it s where we all live, work and play each day.

3 GREENING OUR OPERATIONS The main focus of the Green Partnership program is on sustainable, responsible practices both at a corporate level and at individual properties achieved through initiatives such as recycling, kitchen-waste diversion, retrofitting energy-efficient lighting, conducting community-outreach programs and buying green power. Our projects fall into three key areas. The first is to minimize our impact on the environment by making ongoing operational improvements, mainly in waste management, and energy and water conservation. The second area is to work at a corporate level to foster high-profile partnerships and accreditations that help promote environmental issues, and to share our stewardship message. Finally, we work to follow best practices, which includes working at individual properties to develop innovative community-outreach programs involving and respecting local groups. We also work to ensure that local ecosystems whose beauty and diversity are often the lifeblood of our business are protected and preserved. In all areas of the Green Partnership, we aim to help educate and, in many cases, to involve guests, because our program truly is a partnership: everyone involved in the tourism industry hotel management, colleagues, guests and local communities shares responsibility for taking care of our environment.

4 SHARING THE VISION: CORPORATE PARTNERSHIPS AND AFFILIATIONS Beyond highlighting our commitment to the environment, our affiliations help promote unique Fairmont eco-experiences and help share our vision as we strive toward sustainable tourism practices. Pembina Institute We have partnered with the Pembina Institute, a non-profit environmental organization whose mandate is encouraging sustainable energy solutions. Since 2006, Fairmont has purchased the equivalent of 390 MwH of wind power to offset greenhouse gas emissions generated by all 837 of our front desk check-in and corporate office computers across North America. Our EcoLogo-certified wind power will result in a greenhouse gas reduction of approximately 160 tonnes during 2006 and For more information visit World Heritage Alliance for Sustainable Tourism Responsible tourism is more than simply minimizing the environmental effects of our internal operations; it also involves protecting an area s ecosystems, cultural heritage and traditions, and ensuring that the benefits of tourism are shared with local communities. With this in mind, we are proud to be a member of the World Heritage Alliance for Sustainable Tourism, an industry-leading initiative that was jointly formed by the United Nations Foundation and Expedia, Inc. to promote conservation, sustainable tourism and economic development for communities located in and around UNESCO World Heritage sites. 6 LIVING THE VISION: PROGRAMS AND INITIATIVES Eco-Innovation Signature Projects Fairmont s Eco-Innovation Signature Projects are joint hotel and community projects, unique to each property and relevant to the local environment and ecosystem. As the embodiment of thinking globally and acting locally, the signature projects offer unique travel experiences that encourage guest interaction and learning while addressing universal environmental issues. Our projects include protecting coral reefs in Hawaii, addressing deforestation in Kenya and making international efforts to preserve endangered species such as the North Atlantic right whale, peregrine falcon and sea turtle. Commitment to responsible tourism Our first project undertaken through our membership in the World Heritage Alliance for Sustainable Tourism is based at Fairmont Mayakoba, an ecologically diverse resort located on Mexico s Yucatan Peninsula, near the Sian Ka an Biosphere Reserve and UNESCO World Heritage Site. Our resort is partnering with Community Tours Sian Ka an an award-winning service alliance of three local tour operators. These operators conduct tours in designated areas and work closely with the park managers of Sian Ka an to ensure minimal environmental impact; as well, they donate a percentage of their revenue directly to conservation efforts in the reserve. Greening Our Greens Through our participation in the Audubon Cooperative Sanctuary Certification program, which sets guidelines for an international system of wildlife and environmental conservation, we have developed an extensive integrated management plan for ongoing improvements to our golf courses. Our Greening Our Greens program offers a practical way for our courses to begin making positive changes, while working toward the larger goal of achieving certification from Audubon International. Eco-Meet Fairmont s Eco-Meet program helps event planners by providing a structure that encourages maximum waste diversion and environmental awareness for meeting/conference delegates. The program consists of options that can be tailored to the individual needs of the client; they can meet their environmental goals while choosing how green they want to go. Through four components Eco-Accommodation, Eco-Cuisine, Eco-Service and Eco-Programming planners choose from options such as creating menus that use local, sustainable or organic products; composting food wastes; using disposable-free food & beverage service; offering delegates walking tours or nature-based activities in the community; or purchasing carbon offsets to deliver a carbon-neutral event.
