1 Amendment to the Offshore Oil and Gas Option (OOGE) of all B.Eng. Programmes for the Classes of : Approved by Faculty Council 2007 November 28 and by the Senate Committee on Undergraduate Studies 2007 December 20 This proposal requests several sets of changes for the OOGE Option of the Classes of 2008 through 2012 in all disciplines. These changes move the curriculum closer to that previously approved for the Classes of 2013 onwards. In many cases, additional flexibility in student selections of courses is introduced. 1. Add ENGI 8676 Design of Natural Gas Handling Equipment to the list of technical electives in Term 8 for the OOGE Option of the Civil, Mechanical and Ocean & Naval Architectural disciplines of the Classes of 2008 through This course was created as a technical elective for the OOGE Options of the Civil and Mechanical majors in the Classes of 2013 onwards. Dr. Majid Abdi has taught a previous version of this course (with the course number ENGI 8976) and is willing to teach ENGI Expand the availability of the technical elective course ENGI 8671 Safety and Risk Engineering through distance education. It is now a technical elective in the OOGE Option of all disciplines in Term 8 of the Classes of 2012 and before and has been approved as a technical elective in Term 7 of all OOGE Options for the Classes of 2013 onwards. ENGI 8671 will be available as a technical elective in the OOGE Option of any of the disciplines in either Term 7 or Term 8 for the Classes of 2009 onwards, in both on-campus and off-campus offerings. 3. Replace ENGI 6601 Introduction to Offshore Petroleum Engineering by ENGI 6602 Offshore Petroleum Geology and Technology in all OOGE options. ENGI 6602 is the introductory OOGE course for the Classes of 2013 onwards. 4. For the OOGE Options in Terms 7 and 8 of Computer Engineering (Classes of ) and Electrical Engineering (Classes of ), please refer to the proposal on Transition Programs in Electrical and Computer Engineering.

2 OOGE Transition Programs Page 2 of 8 The next changes address the reality that the compulsory course ENGI 7601 Geosciences Applied in Offshore Engineering in Term 7 of all OOGE Options has not been available since 2004, due to the lack of a suitably qualified instructor. This course does not appear in the previously approved programme for the Classes of 2013 and beyond. The essential subject matter has been absorbed into the new course ENGI 6602 Offshore Petroleum Geology and Technology. For the Classes of 2012 and before, based on the feedback from students and the relevance of ENGI 7601 in the OOGE curriculum, the OOGE group advises that this course may be replaced with another core course or changed to an elective course, depending upon feedback from each discipline. This part of the proposal also allows the early introduction of the two-semester capstone design project courses ENGI 7650 and 8650 Offshore Oil and Gas Engineering Project I and II that have been approved for the Classes of 2013 onwards. Dr. Majid Abdi has agreed to supervise this project course. 5(a) For the OOGE Option in Term 7 of Mechanical Engineering (Classes of ), replace the compulsory course ENGI 7936 Mechanical Project I by the compulsory course ENGI 7650 Offshore Oil and Gas Engineering Project I ; and replace the compulsory course ENGI 7601 Geosciences Applied in Offshore Engineering by a second OOGE elective course in Term 7. The Calendar ( edition) lists the set of electives from which students must choose as ENGI 7602, 7603, 7680, 8680, 8670, 8671, 8672, 8673, 8674, 8675, 8690, 8691, 8692, 8693, or In the foreseeable future, the actual choice in Term 7 will be two electives from the list ENGI 8671, 8690 and The other courses are likely to be available in Term 8 only. 5(b) For the OOGE Option in Term 7 of the Civil and Ocean & Naval Architectural disciplines (Classes of ), replace the compulsory course ENGI 7601 Geosciences Applied in Offshore Engineering by the compulsory course ENGI 7650 Offshore Oil and Gas Engineering Project I 5(c) For all OOGE Options in the Classes of , replace the compulsory course ENGI 8600 Offshore Oil and Gas Engineering Project by the compulsory course ENGI 8650 Offshore Oil and Gas Engineering Project II.
