UV Lighting Technology Team at Royal Liverpool

UV Lighting Technology Trial Is UV lighting effective in improving hospital cleaning? Audit of cleaning process with and without UV light across 10 wards. Use of ATP swabs, micro swabs and visual checks to assess cleaning. ATP scores reduced during UV Light use. Positive acceptance from all staff involved. UV light technology may be used as a confirmatory method and also an audit tool.

Air Decontamination Royal Free London Inov8 Air Disinfection Unit Quest Air Manager GE Healthcare Medixair

Air Decontamination Robyn Smith, Ed James (Principal Investigator) and Kerry Williams at The Royal Free

Air Decontamination Three different air cleaning technologies Inov8 Science Hydroxyl Radicals Quest Air Manager - Close Coupled Field Technology Medixair Ultraviolet light

Air Decontamination Trial Do air cleaning systems reduce the bio-burden in the air and on surfaces? Interrupted protocol design. Achieved reduction of up to 40% in TVCs Achieved environmental MRSA reduction of up to 68% The efficacy of some units was height dependent.

Air Decontamination All three companies continue to supply products to the NHS however there have been some name changes:

MedMat Bristol PCT NHS Trust Principal Investigator: Wendy Briggs Ergomedica MedMat

MedMat Trial User evaluation in community healthcare. Used by district nursing teams, wound care service, walk-in centres, podiatry and prison healthcare service Wendy Briggs (Principal Investigator)

MedMat

MedMat Absorbs Aborbs fluids - relative to current methods Worse Same Better Much better Number of responses

Trial MedMat Over 500 evaluation questionnaires completed and analysed 79% of evaluators felt that the Medmat was better or much better for managing large wound dressings than current practice 64% of evaluators felt that Medmat was better or much better at maintaining a sterile field. Medmat was reported to be significantly more effective at achieving an aseptic approach and maintaining a sterile field Nursing Times Gold Award in Product category.

Nanopool Southport & Ormskirk NHS Trust Nanopool Liquid Glass Layering Technology Principal Investigator: Martin Kiernan

Product Nanopool Nanopool A nanoscale super hydrophobic liquid glass coating Can be easily applied to a wide range of surfaces Makes surfaces easier to clean Originally developed as an anti-graffiti coating Used extensively in food, pharma, hotels Trial Does Nanopool reduce bioburden on surfaces? Wide range of coated and uncoated surfaces in acute wards Evaluated by ATP testing, microbiology sampling and user feedback

Nanopool Sites at Southport & Ormskirk NHS Trust

Nanopool Trial Comparison of coated vs uncoated surfaces? 17 high contact challenging surfaces treated and tested Single coating process Coating shows 25% reduction in ATP scores on coated surfaces compared to uncoated surfaces. For floors, commodes, trolleys and slings the reduction in ATP was >50%.

Formula 429 Fogging Barts & London NHS Trust Chemspec Formula 429 Fogging

Formula 429 Fogging Product Formula 429 Fogging A cleaning product based on a variety of biocides Alternative to steam or sodium hypochlorite for deep cleaning using Byotrol technology Trial Is Formula 429 an effective fogging solution? Fogging of side rooms and equipment Evaluation by microbiology sampling pre and post fogging Data collected on room turnaround times

Formula 429 Fogging Fogging taking place at Barts & London NHS Trust

Formula 429 Fogging

Formula 429 Fogging

Formula 429 Fogging

Formula 429 Fogging Trial A variety of areas were examined including side rooms, 4 bedded bays, sluice rooms and patient shared toilets. 95% Reduction in TVCs in side rooms. 90% reduction in environmental E Coli in side room. Both TVC and ATP show significant reduction post fogging. Average turnaround times across all areas was 58 minutes.
