1 FR-245 Tris(tribromophenoxy) triazine Application Data Sheet for Acrylonitrile-butadiene-styrene (ABS) with a low Sb 2 O 3 content Preamble The information contained in this document is protected by several patents and is intended for the sole use of FR-245 produced and sold by ICL-IP. FR-245 is offered by ICL-IP as a melt blendable flame retardant combining good impact properties with UV stability in styrenic copolymers and their alloys. FR-245 is based on the joint expertise of the Japanese Group Dai-Ichi Kogyo Seiyaku (DKS) and ICL-IP. 2 Thermal stability Thermogravimetric analysis of FR-245 (Table 1) reflects its high thermal stability allowing high processing temperatures. Its thermal stability combined with excellent resistance to hydrolysis, makes it the product of choice when recyclability is an issue. Table 1: Thermogravimetric analysis (TGA-10 0 C/min in air) Weight loss, % Temperature, 0 C Processing conditions Typical processing conditions to compound and mold ABS flame retarded with FR-245 are as follows: Compounding Compounding in a co-rotating twin-screw extruder (L/D: 32) Temperature profile, 0 C: Screw speed, rpm: 300 Throughput, kg/h 14

Table 2 provides indicative formulations and properties achievable in ABS with FR-245. FR-245 based systems introduced to the market facilitate the production of UL 94 V-1/V-0 styrenic copolymers with much less antimony trioxide. Indeed the combination of FR-245 with PTFE as anti-dripping agent allows reducing the amount of synergist needed by a factor of 3 and more, while maintaining a rating of at least UL 94 V-1.

5 Economics FR-245 combined with low ATO loadings offers the following advantages: - Significant raw material cost saving thanks to low content of expensive ATO. - Significant raw material cost saving thanks to low content of high specific gravity ATO. - Significant process time and energy saving thanks to good processability and shorter injection cycle time. Health Safety - Environmental aspects FR-245 is designed and developed to be safe and environmentally friendly in usage and environmentally friendly in end of life vehicles, including recycling or waste incineration. FR-245 has undergone extensive toxicological and environmental testing 1, and no risk to health and the environment is expected. Analyses were performed by Institut Fresenius Chemische und Biologische Laboratorien GmbH on FR-245 itself and under conditions simulating a modern municipal solid waste incinerator for presence of polybrominated dibenzo-para-dioxins/dibenzofurans (PBDD/PBDF). The product was found to be in full compliance with the requirements of the global most strict criteria of the German Dioxin Ordinance and EPA TSCA Final Rule requirements 1. As part of an ongoing Product Stewardship Program and Customer oriented policy, ICL- IP is committed to implement further toxicological and environmental tests if needed. 1 Further information available upon request
