1 PROJECT SCOPE OF WORK CITY OF TOWN AND COUNTRY STORMWATER PROGRAM Project Name: 1338 Thornhill Dr Project ID Number: 1-3 Problem: Creek bank erosion is occurring along from the northern property line at 1338 Thornhill Drive. The erosion is likely caused by high flows due to an increased amount of runoff upstream. Debris in the stream and invasive species may also be adversely impacting the stream health. In addition, a scour pool is forming at the downstream end of the culvert at 133 Thornhill Dr. This pool stays wet during dry periods and attracts unwanted insects such as mosquitos. Proposed Solution: Stabilize the reach of creek closest to the house by installing bank protection/biostabilization with grade controls on the upstream and downstream ends. Native vegetation should be established at the top of the slope and invasive species should be removed from the entire area. Fill the scour pool with rock to protect the bottom and to encourage positive flow through the area. Required Easements: 133 Thornhill Drive (Temporary Construction Easement) 1338 Thornhill Drive (Temporary Construction Easement) Commentary: Average reach slope is approximately.89% (typical stable slope is. to.7%). Bankfull depth is approximately -feet above channel bed. Bankfull width is approximately 9 feet. The bed armor is dominated by 4-inch diameter gravel. Farther downstream, bank erosion is significant in the entire stretch from the 1338 Thornhill Dr property to the confluence near Mason Grove Lane. However, downstream from 1338 Thornhill, the stream erosion is remote from structures, so active mitigation is unnecessary, other than replacing invasive species with long-rooted native vegetation to improve the riparian corridor. Special care should be made to ensure improvements are not pushing the problem farther downstream. PROJECT SCOPE OF WORK

6 1-3 Culvert at 133 Thornhill Drive, looking southwest toward the upstream end. (1) Streambank erosion at upstream location identified at 1338 Thornhill Drive. Since this photo was taken, there is much more vegetation growing on the bank and at the top of the bank. (1) Looking upstream towards the downstream end of culvert at 133 Thornhill Drive. Water flows down steep riffle after leaving culvert. (18) Looking downstream from the same location as previous photo. Water flows from culvert, into fairly steep riffle, and then directly into a bank. The stream then makes a right turn. The pool of water shown here is a concern for the property owner; says it becomes stagnant in dry weather conditions. (18)

7 1-3 Streambank erosion at downstream location identified at 1338 Thornhill Drive. (1) Area is heavily vegetated now; hard to see the channel conditions in summertime. (18)
