1 Attachment 4 TC 2.4 STANDARDS SUBCOMMITTEE Monday, 28 June, 2010 Albuquerque Convention Center, Ruidoso Room 4:15 p.m. 6:00 p.m. Albuquerque, NM 1. Update on standards within scope of TC 2.4: a. SSPC 52.2 M.o.T. Air Cleaners for Particle Size Efficiency Jim Hanley New errata sheet for the 52.2 is now available for free download at: Should 52.2 include rating? Straw vote: 26 yes, 4 no is to make a recommendation as a separate document. MERV will be registered as a service mark. Action probable at this ASHRAE meeting. Someone else would do certification. e.g. AHRI, NAFA, etc. ASHRAE will be publishing /2011; will roll in addenda, errata, etc. Task group formed to handle this. Discussion on using IPA for conditioning. Results from IPA spray may be available at next meeting. Exposure to IPA vapor has been shown to be effective at discharging filter media perhaps full filters could be exposed to IPA vapor as a means of conditioning. SSPC 52.2 may pursue a rating system for filters. ASHRAE appears supportive and may even be pushing the idea. Other rating systems are appearing on the marketplace. MERV table: Adjustment to some of the MERV table values to fix the MERV 8-11 jump and to make table clearer will be submitted for public review in September. Discussed that similar changes may be needed for MERV for consistency. OPC s for 52.2: Discussed using an 8-channel counter with computer program to adjust the channels so as to cover all 12 needed channels in two runs. Results of an informal round robin were presented showing better agreement than a similar round robin a year earlier. Tasks groups formed to investigate how to reduce variability in test data and to look at the differences in particle bounce between labs. b. SSPC 180 Inspection & Maintenance of HVAC Systems Charlie Seyffer i. Std. 180 was incorporated into Std ASHRAE Official Liaisons: a. TC 2.3 Gaseous Filtration Kathleen Owen See also SPC 145 b. TC 2.9 UV Air & Surface Treatment Matt Middlebrooks See also SPC 185 c. TC 5.4 Industrial Air Cleaning Bruce McDonald See also SPC 199 i RP final report approved (Develop a Standard for Testing and Stating the Efficiency of Industrial Pulse Cleaned Dust Collectors). Working on RTAR for development of test method for mist collectors d. TC 9.6 Health Care Facilities Zied Driss i. Hospital design manual published. Handbook chapter reviewed. e. 2 We have authority to set up committee support indoor air quality procedure for specific applications. Start to set up committee. Volunteers give cards to Charlie. Proposed scope of TRG 4.IAQP, Indoor Air Quality Procedure Development TRG 4.IAQP is concerned with developing specific guidance to allow users to apply the IAQP method as defined under ASHRAE Standard Committee results will be presented to the 62.1 Committee as proposals for inclusion in appendices of the Standard. Initial scope Activities will include proposals on using the IAQP method in commercial applications, educational facilities, with a one-by-one follow through until all spaces defined within the main body of the standard have been addressed. f.
