Urban Redevelopment new style: incorporate more of the cities existing capital, do it in a sustainable way and make sure it meets the users demands. Here energy is a leading theme, next to e.g. mobility, water & waste and communication. This new challenge not only calls for another way of co- creation, but for alliances with new strategic partners as well. But:... how to actually do this in practice? Harbour cities have a strong mix of residential and industrial areas and (sustainable) energy production facilities in abundance. They are the perfect place to explore the introduction of the new strategy. This is addressed at the two- day conference Urban Redevelopment new coalitions with new energy: Energy matters. It provides insight into opportunities and current examples across the North Sea Region. In a lunch- to- lunch setting with international speakers the topics of changing roles of stakeholders, new opportunities, pitfalls and financing are discussed. Inspirational view on Residential Harbour Area (City of Malmö) Per Arne Nillson tbc The Malmö- side of the twin port CMP with Copenhagen is slowly moving north. The older harbours area is now transferred in a sustainable residential area. What are the key success factors? Per- Arne will take us into the carbon neutral strategy of the City of Malmo as the driving force for Malmo s economic revival. Integrating Energy in a smart way (Hamburg University of Applied Science / C4DSI) Hans Schaefers tbc Hamburg is Europe s second large harbour and facing an increase of (local) German Renewable Energy supply op to 80% in How do the industries cope with this rapid energy transition? Hans Schaefers will address the urge in for smart solutions right now in the German Industry. Inspirational view on Cooperation between businesses (by Alliander) Bert Heerbaart Alliander is involved in the development of a multiple company energy platform in larger Amsterdam Area (Amsterdam Zuid- Oost) and in Nijmegen (Waalsprong). Here businesses have to overcome their autonomy to benefit from cooperating in a smart (energy) way. What are the do s and don t s? Facilitating Cooperation (TKI SWITCH2SmartGrids) John Post Board member With the instalment of the Dutch TopSector Energy, the Dutch Government is helping SME s to cooperate, both financially and networking- wise John Post will refer to recent inspiring examples of unexpected cooperation. 4

5 POWER SESSION: How does e- mobility fit in? (by EseatzNetwork & RGU) George Jansen tbc & David Gray Environmental issues were the initial driver for e- mobility. Now we know e- mobility can play a role in smart energy solutions as well. How does this support sustainable urban (re) development? Harbour areas offer a huge potential of storage facilities due to an increasing amount of electric vehicles. How to benefit from this? David Gray has some suggestions. Traffic is dense; can we come up with some smarter solutions, adding the social media? George Jansen is developing such platform. POWER SESSION: The driving Force of Local Governments NET- COM To be confirmed The NET- OM project is aiming to increase the number of Cities supporting the Convenant of Mayors. The Net- Com project will talk about it s vision on how to connect the EU Climate Agenda and Urban Development to a driving force for Communities? POWER SESSION: Financing Sustainable cooperation (University of Amsterdam) To be confirmed Renewable energy is said to be profitable. Where s the business case, who will invest, how do we connect to investors, private funds and other sources? POWER SESSION: Public Finances (by Haute Equipe) Peter van Asperen TBC Energy is one of Europe s top priorities. What are the possibilities for subsidies or other sources? Peter van Asperen addresses these topics from a consultant s point of view. Smart Energy is Smart money for Governments (Forum discussion) A lot of governmental money is invested in facilitating the market. Making money seems a no- go route. The Dutch national Rijks Vastgoed- en Ontwikkelings Bedrijf (RVOB to be confirmed) addresses the challenges to exploit the existing infrastructure for sustainable energy supply POWER SESSION: Energy Peninsula s and Islands Some strategic positions in Harbour Area s cannot be development due to (environmental) restriction of all kind. Which strategies and interim regulations are available to make the sustainable transformation a success? POWER SESSION: Massive Industrial Buildings: Retrofitting for Energy Chances? In harbour environment large industrial buildings are hard to redevelop with a sound business case. But what happens if we add the function of local power plant? Does it improve the business case and increases the changes for those buildings?
