2 Norvento A renewable energy pioneer with 30 years proven track record Norvento Enerxía is a group of companies devoted to the construction and operation of power plants that use renewable energy sources. Norvento has been active in the energy sector since 1981, originating from an engineering and electrical services consultancy. With over 160 employees and with assets worth c. 200M, Norvento has been a pioneer in the renewable energy field in Spain, acquiring a proven track record during its over 30 years history. In recent years, as a result of its broadening experience, Norvento became a technologist and began designing, manufacturing and marketing medium-scale wind turbines. Norvento s activity is organized into the following key areas: ned: the area where our medium-scale wind turbine ned100 is conceived. It covers the whole process; from design of the turbine through to its marketing. Renewable Energies: this area vertically integrates all the operations necessary to promote, develop and operate renewable energy installations: wind farms, hydro, solar and biomass plants. Engineering: this department comprises all the engineering services necessary to design and implement any renewable energy installation, including the required environmental studies and services. O&M: this area specializes in the comprehensive operation and maintenance of our own renewable energy installations as well as providing O&M services to external clients. Furthermore, over 150 installations are currently being controlled 24/7/365 from the Norvento Control Centre, in continual contact with Red Eléctrica de España (the National Power Grid operator in Spain). Energy Services: this area offers tailor-made solutions to optimize the energy performance of our clients businesses. We use our extensive knowledge of energy engineering to provide specialized energy services that incorporate wind power, biomass, biogas, photovoltaic and geothermal energy. 3 ned100 Raising the Medium-Wind Standard ned100 is a state-of-the-art 100kW wind turbine, incorporating the huge technical advances that have occurred in wind power technology in recent years. ned100 has been designed with four main aims: maximum safety, minimum noise, maximum availability and optimum performance. Our best in class design is the result of 5 years research and development undertaken by our highly skilled expert team of engineers with over 90 years of accumulated experience in the design and manufacturing of large-scale wind turbines. Additionally, Norvento Group s 20 years experience in the development, construction and operation of renewable energy plants was constantly called upon throughout the design stages of ned100. We are committed to using the very latest, leading edge technology and integrated design methods, enabling our customers to generate their own energy in the most efficient, most costeffective, safest and most sustainable way. ned100 on a 36m tower (Cervo - Spain) 4

4 ned Reliability Nonstop power We could not claim ned100 was a state-of-the-art wind turbine if it did not incorporate an advanced control and safety system. ned100 is able to monitor all of its operating variables in real time and to fine tune the performance of its systems to guarantee maximum reliability, complete safety and the optimum level of energy generation. Because safety is paramount, the monitoring system includes continuous analysis of vibration levels; unique in medium-scale wind turbines. It immediately detects any anomaly and shuts down to avoid safety hazards. Our O&M offer combines over 20 years experience operating renewable energy plants with 24/7/365 diagnosis and troubleshooting of any faults using real-time remote monitoring from the Norvento Control Centre (ned Scada). We just need a standard on-site internet connection; this allows us to maximise the availability of your ned100. In 2015, ned100 has become the first turbine of its size to achieve full IEC certification, confirming ned100 s safety and durability according to the same rigorous standards as large-scale wind turbines. The comprehensive IEC type certification plan includes both this design validation, already carried out by TÜV-SÜD, and the prototype testing by DNV GL, currently underway; two of the most prestigious certification bodies in the wind industry. 5 ned Technology Get the best out of your wind Despite its medium-scale size, ned100 incorporates the most successful technological advances that large-scale wind power has recently achieved. Furthermore, our turbine incorporates the same materials, processes and quality controls as those embedded in large-scale wind turbines, where this technology has matured dramatically over the last twenty years. Variable speed control Energy production is maximized by ned100 s variable speed control which ensures that the blades rotate at their optimum speed, especially in lower wind speeds; triggering power production at 3m/s (6.7 mph) and continuously up to 10m/s (22.3 mph), when peak power is achieved. Variable pitch control ned100 s blades are constantly controlled to keep moving the leading edge angle into the optimum position for any given wind speed. It is when peak power is reached that our variable pitch control becomes the main control driver; adjusting the feathering of the blades to keep the generated power at a constant, maximum, rate. Aerodynamics Norvento designs and manufactures its own blades. This is the secret to delivering our fully integrated product. Optimized aerodynamics together with the variable pitch and variable speed controls along with the direct drive concept, make ned100 an exceptionally quiet and efficient turbine, capable of delivering superior performance even in turbulent wind. Direct drive, no gearbox ned100 has been designed with direct drive technology. The lack of a gearbox in the design reduces the likelihood of breakdowns and increases the reliability and output of the turbine. No hydraulic systems ned100 has no hydraulic systems. This feature increases reliability, reduces maintenance intervals and avoids environmental hazards from possible oil leaks. IGBT Full Power Converter ned100 complies with the most demanding requirements and restrictions of the grid. The Full Power Converter located inside the tower manages 100% of the generated power and controls reactive power even when in stand-by, adapting to all connection conditions and limitations, especially those in areas with weak grids. ned Factory (Vilalba - Spain) 8

6 Custom Design Blades: Offer optimum aerodynamic performance even in turbulent wind, making ned100 one of the most efficient and quietest turbines on the market. Direct Drive: Eliminates the gearbox and hydraulic systems. Speed Control: Keeps the blades turning at their optimum speed. Variable Pitch: Pitches the blades to the optimum angle in every wind speed. Permanent Magnet Synchronous Generator: Within the integrated design gives ned100 a mechanical efficiency greater than 99%. Integrated Platform: Accessed when the automated cowling is opened, ensures easy and safe access to the nacelle (patented). For ned100, we have developed a direct drive system, so we do not need a gearbox. A wind turbine without a gearbox makes the system more transparent, more effective and safer. 9 Ty Gwyn Farm Case Study Ty Gwyn Farm hosts the first ned100 turbine installed in the UK. The turbine is owned and operated by Norvento and is part of a portfolio of turnkey projects that Norvento is developing in the UK on a similar basis. Such a unique offer allows landowners to earn an investment-free, secure income stream in the form of a rent and, potentially, to benefit from low electricity prices should the design of the installation so allow. Anthony and Margot Porter have run Ty Gwyn farm, in Llandrindod Wells, Mid Wales for over 10 years now. Ty Gwyn Farm is a traditional mixed organic farm but also offers country courses, farm experiences, a straw bale lodge, and self-catering accommodation. Mr. Porter was first convinced by wind energy generation at a national agricultural show. Although his initial plan was to acquire a micro-wind turbine to power the farm, he soon realised the potential of operating a slightly bigger turbine that would generate an additional income for the farm. Income diversification is highly valued in a farm operation as it helps towards creating a sustainable business over time, adds Mrs Porter. Mr. and Mrs. Porter were first introduced to Norvento after several bad experiences with other development companies. Their Land Agent made them aware of the company after researching the best option in what is a very competitive market. Norvento s highly efficient ned100 wind turbine, solid industry track record and unique investment-free scheme were key drivers in their decision making process. Mr. Porter stated; were we 10 years younger we would have opted to purchase the turbine outright, but what appealed to them was the opportunity to earn a steady profit from the outset with no investment and therefore no payback period. Prior to working with Norvento, Mrs. Porter was concerned about the potential disruption that a wind turbine would bring to their farm life and operations. Margot s experience with Norvento has alleviated that concern. She states: Norvento have proved to be really respectful of our life at the farm. They would always give us notice in advance of a visit to the site. Mr. Porter adds: As we went along with the project we really liked the fact that we were dealing with one single point of contact throughout the process. Ty Gwyn is a great example of how ned100 can complement a rural business operation. In addition, it illustrates that landowners can enjoy the benefits of wind energy generation without actually owning a wind turbine. ned100 on a 24.5m tower (Powys - Wales) 16
