In order to meet the API turbidity specifications for frac sands, these clays must be removed from the sand. Westpro s Attrition Scrubbers are ideally designed to liberate clays from frac sands, while allowing for high availability and low maintenance requirements. These scrubbers process high density frac sand slurries, causing silica-to-silica particle attrition to break down the clays. 4 Rotary Dryers Once the frac sand has been processed to remove clays and the non-ideally sized material, it must be dried before the final size classification. Westpro s Rotary Dryers provide a simple, low capital cost solution for frac-sands drying. Available in sizes from 2 to 9 in diameter Heavy duty chain & sprocket drives PLC or relay based custom control systems Option for dust control systems (baghouse) Natural gas, diesel or fuel oil combustion systems (NFPA approved fuel train design) Options for Reduction of Settling Ponds Dewatering The remaining non-frac sand material (consisting mainly of fines and clays) can be dewatered to reduce the required size of settling ponds, allow for faster process water re-use and save pumping power. Thickeners Westpro s thickeners use large surface area circular tanks to concentrate slurries by gravity sedimentation. They are ideal for the first dewatering stage for non-frac sands material, thickening the dilute fines slurry to 30 50% solids.
