Data-based decision making in the circular Prepared for Interseroh April, 218

Our philosophy In a future shaped by the circular economy we use resources endlessly. We know the origin and ingredients of all components and materials in the products we use, how and where they are manufactured, the water & energy consumed in production and how re-use scenarios will retain the economic value of products and materials. Digitization will unravel this knowledge & Help us make better decisions

the challenge is gathering the right intel... Compare & evaluate different claims Collect data from supply chains Increase data-reliability and access Generate objective analyses & intelligence

Trace products back to their raw material origins Circular IQ 1. Defines, streamlines & accelerates circular procurement by simplifying sustainability data management across supply chains & generating business intelligence for decision support.

How does Circular IQ work? From product to comparable and reliable circularity assessment

>> Actual data + evidence 1. Translate organizational objective(s) and industry characteristics into criteria. And initiate data-collection. Organizational objective Industry conventions Criteria SUPPLIER INFORMATION Signed agreement Policies & procedures Labor law compliance Environmental performance Water Energy CO2 >> Actual data + evidence PRODUCT INFORMATION Environmental performance Water Energy CO2 Material source Reutilization

2a. Integrate data request in cloud based software application and invite suppliers to provide the data Increasing transparency and supporting collaboration

Gather information: From general product info to composition, environmental impact & certificates

Each tier in your supply chain will help enrich the dataset. All the way to the raw material origins

Create your own materials library

Monitor progress throughout your supply chain periodically

Example of a Circular IQ Product Circularity report details on next pages

Explanation Product Circularity Overview (1/3) PDF is generated from the Circular IQ application from authorised data collected from supply chain partners. Circular IQ does not have an own claim, it makes actual data transparent 2. Name of the product 3. Image of the product 4. Number of known materials that this product contains (and displayed on the list (see next page) 5. Total weight of known materials dit can differ from total product weight. 6. Percentage of weight for known materials (total known materials/total product weight)x1% All known materials are displayed on list (see next page)

Explanation Product Circularity Overview (2/3) Section header Product Circularity Breakdown 2. Materials list, each line a material with unique circularity characteristics. Similar materials could be named, if located in different componants of the product. 3. Colorcoding (traffic light) indicating material safety as well as data assurance. We use the Cradle to Cradle Material Restricted Substances List as a benchmark reference and each report shows explanation (6) 4. Origin of the material and % (weight of material with specified origin/total material weight) x 1%. 5. Check box to indicate if material can be easily disassembled from component 6. Legend to traffic light 7. Disclaimer

Explanation Product Circularity Overview (3/3) Section header Circularity Characteristics 2. Graph indicating composition relating to origin characteristics ( recycled or virging non rapidly renewable or virgin rapidly renewable ). Indicates (% weight of materials meeting characteristic/total product weight) x 1% 3. Graph indicating composition relating to reuse ( compostable, recyclable or biodegradable ). Indicates what could be (not what is see 6). (% weight of materials meeting characteristic/total product weight) x 1%. 4. If no characteristic known, weight adds to none 5. Graph indicating composition relating to reuse, what is. Based on Ellen MacArthur Foundation. 6. Residual value of the product, if known and

Circular Office Furniture for 1. government officials in NL Reliable data on what s in the furniture, if its safe and where it comes from Challenge Circular procurement is a key ambition of the Dutch authorities and a responsibility of the Dutch Ministry of Infrastructure and Environment (RWS). It is still quite new and the first challenge is to define what circularity is and how it will be measured and rewarded. A further challenge is for the suppliers to get the data from deep in supply chains. Lastly, comparison of results and the integrity of the received data sets is an important element of the tender process. Solution RWS has chosen Circular IQ s digital platform to create the needed transparency. The online application was made available to the offerors for the collection of data from deep in the supply chain and for the objective comparison of offers. The digital data platform was also used for swift third party verification. Key benefits Save time collecting data, both for RWS as well as the companies preparing Objectively compare scores of the products offered Decrease the risks associated with acceptance in the market-place Monitor circular economy performance over contract period (1 years)..
