Efficiency increase of biogas power plants Rising costs for energy and an increased awareness for environmental issues are moving the power generation from renewable sources into a public spotlight like never before. For this reason the German government decided to raise the share of renewable energies of the German gross electricity production up to 40 percent until the year 2020 in course of the energy turnaround. There already are approximately biogas power plants installed in Germany and many more over Europe. In a large portion of these power plants 60 percent of the input energy remains unused and is emitted to the environment. Furthermore this heat emission wastes electrical energy that is needed for fans and circulation pumps. Just from the previously named resources there is a vast potential for efficiency-technologies to transform waste heat into valuable electrical power. Not only can the biogas plant s efficiency be raised but the CO 2 emissions can decrease along with the land consumption due to energy crops by recycling the otherwise wasted heat. By the new, legally assured feed in tariffs for IC60 ORC-power from biogas plants according to the EEG 2012 (renewable energy sources act, Germany), additional generated electrical energy can be fed to the energy net as base load electricity with a maximum planning reliability. By using one IC60 ORC-module approx kg CO 2 can be avoided and the land consumption for energy crops can be reduced up to 5 percent per year.

The goal of GERMANIA Technologieholding GmbH is to access unused energy potentials from the industry and agriculture. First and foremost this has to be done to protect valuable resources and lower CO 2 emission. Furthermore the improvement of technical processes is our motivation. Reliability and costumer satisfaction are the top priorities of our company group. Aldo Piacentini-Timm, CEO of GERMANIA Technologieholding GmbH

THE COMPANY Quest for technological efficiency GMK Gesellschaft für Motoren und Kraftanlagen mbh has been founded in 1994 and focuses on the development and production of ORC-modules for the electrification of renewable sources like geothermal energy, waste heat from reciprocating engines and from the energy industry. The company GMK is located in Bargeshagen, Germany a city near the seaport Rostock. GMK is a subsidiary of GERMANIA Technologieholding GmbH, a company group with its core competencies in research & development, engineering and production. Within the company group GERMANIA Apparatebau GmbH is specialized in the production of heat exchangers with automated manufacturing processes. With licences like the HP-0 as well as the German and French nuclear technology code the GERMANIA Apparatebau GmbH is strategically optimally prepared to perform high-complex technical tasks. Some of the clients of GERMANIA Apparatebau GmbH are CERN in Genf, Bayer, BASF, Universities and research centers. GERMANIA Th. Arens is well known for highly qualified construction and commissioning of power plants. Also, GERMANIA Th. Arens is known as a service provider for national and international clients from the energy industry. The financing of GERMANIA products can be carried out by GERMANIA Contracting GmbH / Düsseldorf. Within the company group GERMANIA Besitz- und Verwaltungsgesellschaft is responsible for the management of its own production facilities. 6 IC 60 ORC-MODULE Advantages at a glance Increase of financial and technical efficiency of the biogas power plant by using waste heat for power generation. Fast amortisation of the ORC-module and assured profit due to compensation regulated by KWK-G and EEG as well as savings for electrical auxiliary power (for Germany) As a complete solution IC60 ORC-modules are built into a compact, modular 20-foot container Fully automated operation without feedback to the biogas power plant Remote monitoring system controlled via GPRS or ISDN 24h Maintenance and service contracts assured by the producer - GMK Marginal maintenance efforts due to few moving components Maintenance intervals are adapted to the biogas engine maintenance Saving of fossil energy sources and reduction of CO 2 -emission Financing possibilities by GERMANIA Contracting GmbH No gear box between expander and ORC-generator Organic working fluids at low working temperatures Reliable working pressures below 30 bar

IC 60 ORC-MODULE Efficient waste heat recovery it s that easy GMK your professional partner for implementation The IC60 module is an ORC-plant where waste heat of biogas engines can be converted into electrical power. Technical basis of the IC60 ORC-module is the Organic-Rankine-Cycle where instead of water an organic working fluid is used. By setting up a biogas plant with an IC60 ORC-module the financial efficiency of the entire plant increases and the carbon footprint as well as the land consumption for energy crops of the biogas power plant can be lowered. The IC60 ORCmodule is characterised by a fast amortisation and an intuitive operation. The additional produced electrical energy can be fed into the energy grid or used to cover the auxiliary power of the biogas-plant as well as other farm installations. GMK is the leading company in the area of waste heat recovery by small ORC-modules up to 50 kw electrical power output. Technical reliability and customer satisfaction have been the top priorities since the company s foundation. To recover waste heat by an IC60 ORC-module we offer our customers a substantial service-package including following works: competent consultation for a high-class and technically ambitious product individual development and assistance for the project by qualified degree engineers installation of the heat exchangers by GTHA or regional partners full maintenance contracts assistance with financing and purchase processing by company group remote monitoring of the module 24 hours a day 7 days a week

THE ORC-PROCESS Function of the ORC-module The ORC-process produces electrical power at temperatures and pressures below traditional water vapor power plants. The most important information to know about the ORC-process is the use of organic working fluids like GL160, WL220, Ethanol and OMTS instead of water. The IC60 ORC-process uses heat from the exhaust gas, cooling water, and lubricating oil of the biogas engine. The heat is transported with a thermal-oil or a pressure-water-cycle to the evaporator where it is passed on to the working fluid. The working fluid then evaporates, expands over the expander and is converted into electricity by the generator. Important units of the IC60 ORC-module are produced as tube bundle heat exchangers build by GERMANIA Apparatebau GmbH that had been similarly produced at the production site in Chemnitz 200 years ago for train and steam boilers. Technical details of the ORC-module After leaving the expander the steam is liquefied in the condenser and pumped to the evaporator by the feed pump. Also, the ORC-process offers the possibility to electrify low temperature heat of other heat sources in similar temperature ranges.
