Experience with LNG as bunkers 31 May 2018, Falkenberg Dick Höglund, Financial manager, Terntank

Our fleet Dwt Built Ice class Ternsund A Ternfjord A Tern Sea A Tern Ocean A Ternvind A Tarnbris A Ternholm A Ternvag A Ternhav A Ternvik A Tarnfors A* Tarndal A*

What we have done until now for the environment Installed SCR for Main Engines and Catamizer (SCR) for auxiliary engines already in 2011, by this Ternvag have been able to reduce the NO X with 97 %. Since installation the total saving is ton for ME and 132 ton for Aux engines Installed Lean Marine Fuel Optimizer and frequency converters in 4 vessels. Since installation, the saving in bunker consumption has been tons Innovated and implemented Virtual ETA within Time Charters and Contract Voyages with a saving of 83 ton bunker in less than one year Taken delivery of 4 high tech vessels with LNG dual fueled main engines and Catamizer (SCR) on auxiliary engines Reduced emissions and therefore reduced environmental footprints in the transport chain

4 new buildings delivered from AVIC Dingheng Four product tankers of DWT with optimal environmental performance The World's first LNG driven new tankers in operation from June 2016 until January 2017 Catamizer (SCR) on auxiliary engines The cost for environmental performance is 30 % higher compared with a conventional tanker These vessels are new to the tanker fleet operating in the sensitive Baltic Sea

Calculated emission reductions * Compared with a vessel with same size built around 2005, operational speed 14 knots.

Measured emission reductions Ternholm (MGO) vs Ternsund (LNG) with operational speed 14 kn NO X CO 2 32 % less CO 2 86 % less NO X Ternholm LNG Ternsund

Cooperation for LNG bunkering Together with Port of Gothenburg and Sirius Rederi we have implemented bunker procedures with bunker vessel Coralius both in port and at sea in west coast of Sweden

What we re doing right now for the environment Developing further environmentally friendly supply chains with our clients On the way to install SCR for auxiliary engines in Ternvind and Tarnbris with a saving of kg NOx/vessel/year Looking for on shore power supply possibilities

What we re planning to do for the environment in the future Starting a biofuel research project to test a blend of marine gasoil with % renewable content in existing vessels While chosen LNG as the primary source of fuel today, Terntank is looking for the possibilities to use liquefied bio gas (LBG) cost efficiently in the future LBG is similar to LNG but is produced from bio based feedstock. LBG and LNG are interchangeable as fuel and therefore the same LNG infrastructure and vessels could be used for LBG in the future

Environmental incentives and co operation needed We are grateful for the support from EU for the first new building and the support we have got from the Norwegian NOx Fund for two vessels We are happy for the environmental reductions of port fees in some ports and the reduction of fairway dues in Sweden this year We cannot do this alone for the environment and other incentives and support are needed from governments, authorities and ports as the building cost of a new high tech green vessel is 30 % more expensive than of a conventional vessel In the hard market situation it is not fair that the industry takes all the responsibility for the transition to more sustainable shipping As the supply of LNG is a bottleneck and the industry takes all costs today, the governments must take responsibility to get the infrastructure in place We promise to do our part of the investments for the greener shipping

Clean Shipping Index reduction in fairway dues and port fees M/T TERNHOLM Clean Shipping Index Environmental performance CSI 5 CSI 4 CSI 3 CSI 2 CSI 1 Total score: 87 Clean Shipping Index Environmental performance CSI 5 CSI 4 CSI 3 CSI 2 CSI 1 Total score: 130 M/T TERNSUND All scores given in the CSI system is a proof of an environmental performance that reaches beyond legal requirements. Any vessel that is rewarded with CSI scores, undergoes a third party verification.
