5 FLIONEX : PRINCIPLES OF SALTS EXTRACTION «A World Exclusivity» Complexation of the cation thanks to a neutral organic macromolecule making it hydrophobic => transfer to the organic layer The anion follows by charge neutrality and by employing a specific matrix which solvates the anion (SA) Salt desorption at higher temperature (> +50 C) to regenerate Flionex and produce brine Li + Cl - 3 Aqueous phase 1 Extraction 2 Li+ Cl - SA + SA Organic phase = Flionex 5
