UN s Sustainable Development Goals

1 of 6 priorities: Water for our environment, economy and society Actions are expected to improve the efficiency and effectiveness of resource use (including water), substantially reduce the generation of residual waste and thus reduce adverse environmental/climate effects, while also providing new business opportunities, including for SMEs. Actions with a focus on water will support and accelerate the implementation of EU water, resource efficiency and water-dependent industrial policies and initiatives, including the European Innovation Partnership Water (EIP Water). strengthening international collaboration and partnerships on water-smart solutions, technologies and governance.

Focus Areas for WP Building a low-carbon, climate-resilient future* ( 3.3 billion) Connecting economic and environmental gains the Circular Economy* ( 1 billion) Digitising and transforming European industry and services Boosting the effectiveness of the Security Union * contribution from SC5

COP 21 The Paris agreement - entered into force 4th of November legally binding - Holding the increase in the global average temperature to well below 2 C above pre-industrial levels and to pursue efforts to limit the temperature increase to 1.5 C above pre-industrial levels, recognizing that this would significantly reduce the risks and impacts of climate change

Focus area:"building a low-carbon, climate resilient future«(h2020 cross-cutting) Aims to achieve: operationalisation of the Paris Agreement (PA) goals accelerated transformation towards carbon neutrality enhanced climate resilience in Europe and beyond long term mitigation and adaptation policy planning, deployment of technology to reduce emissions and enhanced climate change resilience in developing countries Total budget: 3.3 billion

SC5 Main call - Building a low-carbon, climate resilient future: climate action in support of the Paris Agreement, 8 topics (t) in 2018 and 2019 Decarbonisation 2t: RIA Climate adaptation, impacts and services 3t: RIA Inter-relations between climate change, biodiversity and ecosystems 1t: RIA The Cryosphere 1t: RIA, CSA Knowledge gaps 1t: RIA Indicative topics for 2020 Budgets (EUR million): 2018: 123, 2019: 111, 2020: 192 Deadlines (both calls): 27 Feb (1 st stage) og 4 Sept (2 nd stage) 2018, 19 Feb 2019 (1 st stage) og 4 Sept (2 nd stage) 2019.

Decarbonisation LC-CLA : Supporting the development of climate policies to deliver on the Paris Agreement, through Integrated Assessment Models (IAMs) Supporting the design and assessment of climate policies Improving Integrated Assessment Models (IAMs) LC-CLA : Negative emissions and land-use based mitigation assessment Feasibility of negative emissions for climate stabilisation, or Land-based mitigation

Climate adaptation, impacts and services LC-CLA : Climate change impacts in Europe Climate change impacts on health in Europe, or Global climate change impacts from a European perspective LC-CLA : Resilience and sustainable reconstruction of historic areas to cope with climate change and hazard events LC-CLA : Human dynamics of climate change Climate services for Africa, or Climate and human migration

Inter-relations between climate change, biodiversity and ecosystem services LC-CLA : Inter-relations between climate change, biodiversity and ecosystem services The Cryosphere LC-CLA : The changing cryosphere: uncertainties, risks and opportunities Sea level changes, or Changes in Arctic biodiversity, or Sustainable opportunities in a changing Arctic, or Arctic standards (CSA)

Knowledge gaps LC-CLA : Addressing knowledge gaps in climate science, in support of IPCC reports Addressing knowledge gaps in climate science, in support of IPCC reports, or Improving the understanding of key climate processes for reducing uncertainty in climate projections and predictions, or Tipping points, or Ice-core drilling in East Antarctica

Focus Area "Connecting economic and environmental gains the Circular Economy (H2020 cross-cutting) Aims to achieve: a much better use of resources, including energy and raw materials significant reductions in waste and pollution sustaining and making use of natural cycles competitive advantages for existing businesses opportunities for new businesses, including disruptive innovation Total budget: 1 billion

SC5 Main call - Greening the economy in line with the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), 20 topics (t) in 2018 and 2019 Connecting economic and environmental gains the circular economy - 5t: 2RIA, 2IA, 1CSA Raw materials - 5t: 2RIA, 2IA, 1CSA (3 topics CE) Water for our environment, economy and society- 2t: RIA, IA Innovating cities for sustainability and resilience 2t: RIA, IA Protecting and leveraging the value of our natural and cultural assets: Earth observation - 2t: RIA, CSA, IA Nature-based solutions, disaster risk reduction and natural capital accounting 2t: RIA, CSA Heritage alive - 2t: CSA, IA, Indicative topics for 2020 Budgets (EUR million): 2018: , 2019: 259, 2020: 81

Connecting economic and environmental gains - the circular economy improve the efficiency of resource use (including energy and water), to minimise the production of waste and increase the use of resources originating from secondary sources while avoiding adverse health effects and to reduce pollution and greenhouse gas emissions. enhance the capacity of cities to embrace circular economy approaches and support the transition to systemic, integrated solutions closing the cycles of resource use in the water sector...implement SDG 6 'Ensure availability and sustainable management of water and sanitation for all.

Circular economy CE-SC : Demonstrating systemic urban development for circular and regenerative cities CE-SC : Building a water-smart economy and society Water for our environment, economy and society SC : Digital solutions for water: linking the physical and digital world for water solutions SC : EU-India water co-operation
