2 What is EFDB? Emissin Factr Database (EFDB) is an electrnic library f greenhuse gas emissin factrs/parameters (EFs): default values frm IPCC Guidelines data frm peer-reviewed papers data frm nn-peer reviewed publicatins (gvernmental reprts, industry studies, etc.) Available fr free: n-line: ff-line: DVD/USB - Versin 3.0 (Nvember, 2018) can be dwnladed frm the web-site The Web applicatin is the cre f this system. New data will be made available in the Web applicatin first

4 Why is EFDB needed? Quality f GHG inventries depends n reliable EFs and activity data EFs that reflect natinal circumstances shuld be used in inventry cmpilatin Develpment f natinal EFs is cstly, time cnsuming, and requires much expertise By sharing data/infrmatin EFs can be btained cst-effectively An easily accessible public EFDB wuld help t imprve the quality f natinal GHG inventries and facilitate data sharing by inventry cmpilers, experts, scientists wrldwide

6 EFDB Editrial Bard The members f the Editrial Bard are selected by the Task Frce Bureau n Natinal GHG Inventries frm the experts fficially nminated by gvernments and bserver rganizatins. In this selectin, gegraphical balance as well as balance f expertise shuld be ensured The Editrial Bard cnsists f the fllwing members: a. Tw C-chairs f the Editrial Bard b. Sectr experts fr each f the sectrs*: i. Energy ii. Industrial Prcesses, and Slvent and Other Prduct Use (IPPU) iii. Agriculture iv. Land Use, Land Use Change and Frestry (LULUCF) v. Waste * Sectr experts fr Agriculture and LULUCF may wrk tgether as Agriculture, Frestry and Other Land Use (AFOLU) sectr in accrdance with the 2006 IPCC Guidelines.

9 IPCC EFDB and UNFCCC prcess In the cntext f the UNFCCC reprting guidelines fr annual inventries fr Annex I Parties If Annex I Parties lack cuntry-specific infrmatin, they culd als use EFs r ther parameters prvided in the IPCC Emissin Factr Database, where available, prvided that they can demnstrate that thse parameters are apprpriate in the specific natinal circumstances and are mre accurate than the default data prvided in the 2006 IPCC Guidelines (Decisin 24/CP.19, para 12 Annex I) In the cntext f Natinal cmmunicatins f nn-annex I Parties (NAI-NC) Cnsultative Grup f Experts (CGE) agreed n the usefulness f the Emissin Factr Database and recmmended imprvement f data quality by enhancement f the sharing f cuntryspecific emissin factrs thrugh the Emissin Factr Database amng NAI Parties, as an element t be cnsidered in a future revisin f the NAI-NC Guidelines (FCCC/SBI/2011/5/Rev.1)

10 EFDB: Current and Future Wrk TSU has been cnstantly wrking n imprving EFDB: In May 2018 a new versin f EFDB was released which allws better navigatin (categrizatin fr search) and better functinality fr ppulating the cntent Als it has been upgraded t the latest IT-envirnment LAMP/ MySQL/ PHP Other features were imprved as well (type f parameters, list f gases, surces f data fr nn-defaults, etc.) Next year it is planned t update the ff-line versin f EFDB

11 Respnsibility and Cntributin The respnsibility f apprpriate use f the EFDB infrmatin will always remain with the users themselves Success f the EFDB depends n yur cntributin! If yu wrk n develpment f GHG emissin factrs and wuld like t submit yur data r give a feedback n the cntent/functinality f EFDB, please share it with the Technical Supprt Unit (TSU) via ipcc-efdb@iges.r.jp
