DuPont Performance Lubricants Aerospace Segment / Marketing

Solutions for the Performance Lubricants Industry 1 DuPont Krytox Performance Lubricants Based on DuPont-patented fluoropolymer technology, Krytox performance lubricants have demonstrated the broad applicability to replace hundreds of purpose-formulated conventional oils and greases throughout the aerospace industry.

2 A History of Innovation Developed fluorinated fluids through research Developed grease with US Navy and Air Force 1965 Sold first commercial quantities 1966 Used by NASA for Apollo space flight 1982 Introduced vacuum pump fluids and regeneration 1985 Introduced Krytox General Purpose Lubricant (GPL) Products 1994 Introduced highly effective thickeners 1998 Introduced XHT very-high-temperature products and E series products with organic anticorrosion additive 2002 Announced new H1 approved food grade lubricants 2005 Introduced corrugator food grade greases 2006 Launched CorrSurface Protect products

3 Krytox Oils and Greases Today Exceptional lubricants that: Offer cost-effective solutions Are environmentally preferable Combine high-temperature performance, nonflammability and chemical inertness under many conditions Increase the service life of critical components so manufacturers can: Extend warranties Reduce plant maintenance costs Improve productivity by reducing component failure Are used worldwide in numerous applications

4 Cost-effective Solutions from Krytox Life, Cost and Reliability Application Electric motor 227 C (440 F), 1,750 rpm Textile roll 225 C (437 F), 5,400 rpm Typical Hydrocarbon Lubricant 5-day relubrication 1-month relubrication Krytox 9-month relubrication 24-month relubrication Pressure relief valves 50% failure rate < 1% failure rate Paper corrugating machine $144,000 (Cost of downtime and replacement) $3,000

5 Environmental Benefits of Krytox Krytox products: Eliminate or reduce the need for hydrocarbon lubricants Are long lasting, requiring less lubricant Are completely nontoxic Do not release volatile organic compounds (VOCs)

6 Industries Using Krytox Aerospace Automotive Chemical and Petrochemical Design / OEM Electronics / Semiconductor Food Medical Metal Processing Sports / Hobbies Textile Paper / Corrugating Power Generation

7 Typical Krytox Applications Aerospace Bearings Sealant O-ring Oxygen systems Automotive Bearings CV joints Weatherstrip Antilock braking systems Industrial Paper corrugating bearings Chemical plant maintenance Valves High-temperature equipment Clean rooms Chlorine and oxygen service Textile equipment Electronics Vacuum pump fluids High-vacuum greases Vacuum system sealant

Krytox Applications in the Aerospace Industry 8 Superior Performance in: Wide temperature ranges: 70 to 399ºC (-100 to 750ºF) Robustness (resistant to change in properties over time) in harsh environments Excellent frictional properties for long wear and low energy consumption Compatibility with all metals, elastomers, plastics, paints and finishes

Krytox Applications in the Aerospace Industry 9 General Applications: Bearings - all types Seals - valves and pumps O-rings - sealants and lubricants Aerospace Specific Applications: Oxygen systems - valve and pump packing seals, mechanical seals and connectors Rocket engines, liquid fueled - turbines, gimbals, pumps, gears, valves with fuel/oxidizer exposure

10 Krytox Chemistry Krytox lubricants contain three elements: Carbon Oxygen Fluorine Krytox fluids often likened to liquid Teflon

11 What Does Krytox Look Like? Teflon - Polytetrafluoroethylene (PTFE) Krytox - Perfluoropolyether (PFPE) Carbon Fluorine Oxygen

12 What You Should Know About Krytox The base oil for all Krytox products is perfluoropolyether (PFPE) oil, invented by DuPont in 1959 PFPE exhibits exceptional stability and lubricating properties Most Krytox greases are thickened with a specialty grade of DuPont Teflon powder and may contain lubricant additives (anticorrosion, extreme pressure, etc.) Use of Krytox products will often yield the lowest total life cycle cost in applications, offering an economical solution that won t compromise quality

13 The Benefits of Krytox Technology Exceptional safety; will not burn or support combustion even in 100% liquid or gaseous oxygen Reliable and consistent in low- and very-high-temperature conditions No degradation or breakdown in presence of aggressive chemicals Longer lubricant life with reduced contamination Protects under high loads and slower speeds; components run more quietly and last longer Compatible with most elastomers and plastics and a wide range of metals Environmental benefits: nonhazardous, nontoxic, nonregulated and completely inert; supports no type of biological growth
