1 427 Whatman GMF-150 Glass Microfibre Whatman has developed a new filter medium by combining two microfiber filters in one. Manufactured from 100% borosilicate glass microfibres, the filter is binder free and unique in its construction: a course layer on top of, and meshed with, a fine layer. This filtration technique allows for F1550 higher particle loading capacity, faster flow rate and and life extendance of the filter. Multiple porosities means greater filtration efficiency. The Multigrade GMF-150 represents the new dimension in separation science leading to faster and more cost effective filtration. In application, the Multigrade traps larger particles in the pores or on the surface of the coarse layer while the medium-sized particles are caught in the interface meshing. The smaller particles are netted in the interstices of the fine layer. Tests have proven that the Multigrade GMF-150, used as a prefilter, nearly doubles the volume of sample filtered compared to a single density prefilter. Conventional filters cannot perform up to the same caliber as the Multigrade GMF-150 simply because prefilters of a uniform density do not have the loading capacity of the multiporosity filter. Whatman High purity quartz (SiO2) microfibre filters are used for air sampling in acidic gases, stacks, flues and aerosols, particularly at high temperatures up to 500 C and in PM10 testing. Because of the low level of alkalin earth metals, "artifact" products of sulfates and nitrates (from SO2 and NO2) are F1555 virtually eliminated. 8 x 10 in. sheets of QM-A type filters are available sequentially numbered according to EPA standards, and are suitable for most applications; QM-B type filters are for use when double thickness and increased strength and retention is required. QM-B type filters are available only in 8 x 10 in. sheets. Circle filters come 100 Filters/Box. Plain 8 x 10 in. sheets come 25 Filters/Box. Pre-numbered 8 x 10 in. QM-A sheets come 100 Sheets/Box. It is manufactured from 100% pure borosilicate glass of special purity enabling detailed chemical F1552 analysis of trace pollutants to take place with the minimum of interference or background. EPM 2000 filters are available in either a 4.7cm circle filter or an 8 x 10 in. sheet. Both sizes come 100/Box. Whatman EPM 2000 was selected by the EPA to be the standard filter for use in the nationwide network of HiVol air samplers. Sheets are individually numbered to facilitate identification. Whatman. The fine particle retention (1.5 µm) and flow rate (13.0 ml/sec) of this popular grade is superior for its high retention efficiency at high flow rates and its high loading capacity. This filter is a smooth surface, high retention borosilicate glass microfiber which withstands temperatures F1560 over 500 C. Specified in Standard Methods 2540D for determining total suspended solids in water, removal of turbidity and filtration of bacterial cultures. Grade 934-AH is used for a wide range of laboratory applications. It is recommended for water pollution monitoring, cell harvesting, liquid scintillation counting and air pollution monitoring. 2 428 GF/A Glass Microfiber Filters. Whatman Whatman GF/A glass microfibre filters offer fine particle retention (1.6 µm) and high flow rate, as well as good loading capacity. Used for high efficiency general purpose laboratory filtration, including water pollution monitoring of effluents, for filtration of water, algae and bacteria cultures, foodstuff analyses, protein F1580 filtration and radioimmunoassay of weak ß emitters. Recommended for gravimetric determination of airborne particulates, stack sampling and absorption methods of air pollution monitoring. 100 circles/box. Whatman. Whatman Whatman No. GF/C combines fine particle retention (1.2 µm) with good flow rate. The standard filter in many parts of the world for the collection of suspended solids in potable water and natural and industrial wastes. Fast and efficient clarification of aqueous liquids containing low to medium levels of fine particulates. Widely used F1620 for cell harvesting, liquid scintillation counting and binding assays where more loading capacity is required. Whatman. Whatman Whatman No. GF/B is three times thicker than GF/A with higher wet strength and significantly increased loading capacity. Combines fine particle retention (1.0 µm) with good flow rate. Particularly useful where liquid clarification or solids quantification is required for heavily loaded fine particulate suspensions. Can be F1600 used as a finely retentive membrane prefilter. Used in LSC techniques where high loading capacity is required. Whatman. 3 429 GF/F Glass Microfiber Filters. Whatman Whatman No. GF/F is a high efficiency filter that will retain fine particles down to 0.7µm. Unlike membrane filters with a comparable retention value, it has a very rapid flow rate and an extremely high loading capacity. Suitable for critical applications including enumeration of Salmonella and Pseudomonas Aeroginosa, F1660 clarification of protein solutions and filtering samples and solvents prior to HPLC. Because of the tight specification of 0.6µm-0.8µm particle retention and pure borosilicate glass structure, GF/F is the material upon which the EPA Method TCLP 1311 for Toxicity Characteristic Leaching Procedure was developed. It remains today the filter of choice. Recommended for DNA binding and purification. Very effective in filtering finely precipitated proteins, GF/F can be used in conjunction with GF/D as a prefilter for the successful clarification of extremely "difficult" biochemical solutions and fluids, and nucleic acids.
