7 Mid-term Environmental Activities Energy Saving (Reduction of energy use): We continue energy saving activities aimed at reduction of energy use per product. The average global land temperature is rising at a rate of approximately 0.74 per century from 1906 to It is generally agreed that global warming is caused by the increasing concentration of CO2. The resulting imbalance has wide-ranging impacts, damaging the ecosystem, bringing extreme weather conditions and causing the loss of low-lying land through rising sea levels. We are making effort to reduce energy use for reducing CO2 emissions. Reduction of Chemical substances: For reduction of pollution by environmentally hazardous substances, we continue reduction activities. Air pollution, ozone depletion, water pollution, soil contamination, erosion of biodiversity and health damage are just some of the problems caused by the effects of environmentally hazardous substances used by man, such as cadmium and chlorofluorocarbons. In the natural world, animals, water and air form a complex and mutually supportive ecological network. There is a need for appropriate worldwide management of chemical substances that do not degrade easily. We are making effort to reduce the environmental impact by the reduction and proper management of the chemical substances. Reduction of Waste Materials: We continues to promote zero emission of waste and 3R activity Today, the waste is not only regional disposal problem, but also important problem: Reconsideration of the structure for economy and society that dispose many waste, Establishing a social economy system of resource recycling. We are making effort to reduce waste: continuance of zero emission, promotion of 3R activity. 7

8 Energy Saving We are working on energy saving activities in the whole company because we use energy for many production facilities and the office equipment. In the power plant, energy use has been reduced by introducing of the top runner equipment and highly effective equipments. In the production, energy use has been reduced by introducing of a yield improvement, a productivity improving, and an efficient device. We save electricity in the place where usually many person doesn t exist. Turning off the lights during lunchtime, power saving of OA equipments, energy saving education, educational campaigns, and the setting up the motion sensor lighting in the passage etc. The photovoltaic power generation was introduced in 2007, and energy of nature is used for a part of the power that our company uses. In FY2010, we reduced the CO2 emissions in about 250ton as an effect of the energy saving activities. 9 Reduction of Chemical Substances In the production and engineering division, the poisonous and deleterious substances for washing have been reduced by the process improvement because the poisonous and deleterious substances have heavy impact to the environment such as air pollution, water pollution, and the soil contaminations. The deleterious substance used in the waste water treatment facilities has been reduced by improving the facility management. The amount of use of the poisonous and deleterious substances in the production process declined from 96ton in FY2006 to 34ton in FY2010 with the effects of the reduction activity by the production and engineering division. 10 Reduction of Chemical Substances Greenhouse gas is not easily resolved when emitted to the atmosphere, has the gas that Global Warming Potential (GWP) is several thousand times higher than CO2, and the reduction of emissions is an important problem. To reduce greenhouse gas, We continues to promote reduction of amount use by improving the production process and productivity to reduce the greenhouse gas. PRTR substances are various chemical substances with hazardousness, and its exhaust has heavy environmental impact. The production and engineering division is improving the production process and productivity to reduce these chemical substances because it has high hazardousness.
