(NVE) Romanian EEA grants program on Renewable Energy Closing conference Bucharest November 9, 2017 Bjørn Aulie, International Section

Norwegian Water resources and Energy Directorate Directorate subordinated the Ministry of Petroleum and Energy Licenses within water and energy measures Energy system energy regulator security of supply Floods and landslides - preventing damages Hydrology analysis, data and information nov.

Some background concerning electricity hydro is dominating in Norway Total installed capacity for electricity: MW. Annual generation: 132 TWh. 97 % hydro power - 3 % thermal and wind. Annual consumption equal hydro generation capacity Largest hydropower producer in Europe, sixth largest in the world nov.

Wind power generation is fast growing in Norway Expected 10 percent of the electricity generation from wind in 2030 Until 2021 support scheme for renewable energy green certificate system (called el certificates) Wind power in the long term profitable without support nov.

Some challenges for the power system in Norway Formidable needs for investments in the electricity grid much old network, as well as a need for increased capacity in peak load periods; Electro mobility 1,5 mill electric cars (50 percent) in Norway in electric ferries and other public transport Induction cooker in households Other new technologies with higher capacity demand More nonregulated power into the system as wind and solar Incitements is required (price mechanisms) for energy saving in peak periods nov.

District heating and cooling in Norway 5,2 TWh District heating, all major cities 50 % from Waste (waste to energy incineration plants) 20 % from Bio 15 % from Heat pumps 10 % from Electricity 5 % from Fossil Increasing demand for district cooling Cooling served by heat pumps, direct cooling from sea water or heat driven cooling nov.

Geothermal energy in Norway Installed effect for shallow geothermal heat MW typically by energy wells down to max 200 meters About heat pump facilities based on exploitation of the shallow geothermal heat. Including all types of heat pumps also air to air and air to water 15 TWh produced heat out of 6 TWh electricity totally heat pumps nov.

Expected development in the European power system Today: 80/20 percent thermal energy/renewable energy In 2030: 50/50 and in 2050: 20/80 thermal energy/renewable energy 500 TWh coal and nuclear power replaced with 340 TWh wind and 150 TWh gas Reduced need for support schemes for renewable energy Phasing out old thermal power plants nov.

Experiences from the energy program in Romania under completion The 4 small scale hydropower plant projects were not implemented among other things because of the lack of private funding Two successful geothermal heat projects in Ilfov and Oradea are implemented Off grid project between University of Iasi and partners studies and reports are made, but not physically implemented. Useful bilateral cooperation between Iceland/Norway and Romania - many conferences, seminars, work shops and study trips (visiting hydropower plants in Norway yearly since 2013) nov.

Visit to the Geothermal energy facility in Ilfov Mars nov.

Visit to the Geothermal energy facility in Oradea April nov.

Delegation from Romania to Norway - visiting hydropower plants Region Middle Trondheim and Selbu, March nov.

Visiting potential sites for small scale hydropower plants in Romania km by car in 4 days Tarcau (Brates and Ata), Mara and Timis September nov.

Delegation from Romania to Norway - visiting hydropower plants Eastern region - Østerdalen og Gudbrandsdalen, June nov.

Delegation from Romania to Norway - visiting hydropower plants Eastern region - Østerdalen og Gudbrandsdalen, June nov.

Delegation from Romania to Norway - visiting hydropower plants Eastern region - Østerdalen og Gudbrandsdalen, June nov.

Delegation from Romania to Norway - visiting hydropower plants Region west Stavanger and Sirdal, June nov.

Delegation from Romania to Norway - visiting hydropower plants Region west Stavanger and Sirdal, June nov.

Visit to Cluj - hydropower cascade Somesul Mic in April nov.
