PROGRAMME CZ Environment, Ecosystem and Climate Change

CZ-ENVIRONMENT: Goals Programme Goals: Programme Operator: Programme Partner: Donor Programme Partner: to improve the environmental status in ecosystems and to reduce the adverse effects of pollution and other human activities on the environment of the Czech Republic, to contribute to the mitigation of climate change and to reduce the vulnerability to these changes through adaptive measures State Environmental Fund of the Czech Republic Ministry of the Environment of the Czech Republic Norwegian Environment Agency Programme Grant: in total: 35,294,118 (100%) Norway Grants: 30,000,000 (85%)

CZ-ENVIRONMENT: Key messages focus on innovative / pilot projects; high rate of support (90/100%); low administrative burden for final beneficiaries; using the experience of the State Fund for implementation of environmental subsidies; the possibility to create close links to other (larger) support programmes.

CZ-ENVIRONMENT: What are the areas of support? Outcome 1: video link: Improved Environmental Status in Ecosystems implementation of pilot projects including application of results of accomplished research projects into practice; small-scale measures to improve environmental status in ecosystems (to enhance the stability of the landscape to increase biodiversity in ecosystems) in sites outside national protected areas; implementation of measures focused at protection of the most endangered species of animals and plants (Red listed); public awareness raising of environmental problems in ecosystems. OBJECTIVES implementation of innovative projects to improve environmental status in ecosystems with a multi-sectoral approach; implementation of environmentally friendly measures to increase biodiversity in ecosystems in sites outside the protected areas; implementation of measures for selected species (Red listed); increasing awareness of environmental problems in ecosystems among public.

CZ-ENVIRONMENT: What are the areas of support? Outcome 2: The adverse effects of human activities on air quality reduced implementation of site monitoring to identify the main sources of pollution and development of Action plans; implementation of measures from the existing Action Plan(s) to improve air quality in regions (i.a. greening of public areas); establishment of a monitoring network to identify levels of air pollution caused by local heating in some regions; public awareness raising of air pollution and air quality improvement. OBJECTIVES identification of main sources of air pollution in selected areas; identification and implementation of new (as well innovative/pilot) measures (within Action / Strategic Plans) to improve air quality; establishment of air quality monitoring systems related to home/local heating; increasing awareness of air pollution among public.

CZ-ENVIRONMENT: What are the areas of support? Outcome 3: OBJECTIVES The adverse effects of human activities on water quality reduced improvement of monitoring through projects to acquire adequate equipment and analytical methods (with regard to Directive 2008/105/EC); implementation of pilot or demonstration projects to reduce pharmaceutical pollution in selected hot spots sources; public awareness raising of pharmaceutical pollution and local or regional information campaign to raise general public awareness and capacity building measures regarding emerging pollutants improvement of monitoring of emerging pollutants under the Water Framework Directive; implementation of pilot projects to reduce pharmaceutical pollution; increasing awareness of emerging pollutants among public.

CZ-ENVIRONMENT: What are the areas of support? Outcome 4: OBJECTIVES Enhanced resilience and emissions reduction in selected communities development of the new local/regional Adaptation and Mitigation Strategies/Plans; implementation of measures from existing local or regional Adaptation and Mitigation Strategies/Plans; public awareness raising of global climate change issues, especially at local or regional level. development of new mitigation / adaptation plans (local and regional); implementation of new (as well innovative/pilot) mitigation / adaptation measures; increasing awareness among public and capacity building for local/regional level.

CZ-ENVIRONMENT: What are the areas of support? Bilateral Fund OBJECTIVES mutual cooperation between partners and entities from Norway and the Czech Republic o to expand existing cooperation between Norwegian and Czech institutions and public administration and other entities; o establishing new cooperation and best practices and results sharing within donor project partnership in the area of environmental protection; other international relations; e.g. to strengthen cooperation on best practices sharing with other international partners (for instance within the Visegrad Group jointly with Norwegian partners on common environmental issues).

CZ-ENVIRONMENT: Opportunities mutual and international project cooperation as one of the points of the Bilateral Ambitions of the CZ Environment Programme; organizing / participating on mutual discussions, implementation, results presentation and other best practices sharing (esp. within innovative projects); sharing of new topics solving; possibility of holding expert conferences.
