5 Citizens of Williamson County are encouraged to take advantage of the FREE Mulch Program at Williamson County Landfill. Clean loads of brush and wood waste are diverted at the landfill. The diverted brush and wood waste is processed on-site into mulch. This mulch is available to local citizens and the County at NO CHARGE. Mulching gardens helps conserve water, suppresses weeds, encourages earthworms and provides nutrients to the soil and plants. Residents are also encouraged to drop off their Christmas trees FOR FREE after the holiday season for recycling. Generally, Christmas tree recycling starts December26th and runs until mid-january. Just make sure ornaments and other decorations are removed. In addition, flocked and artificial trees are not accepted as part of this program. 11,294 Tons 5,290 Tons 3,901 Tons 10,689 Tons 11,904 Tons Tons of Brush Diverted For more information, call the Williamson County Landfill at (512)

6 The Williamson County Landfill is a regional facility that provides safe and convenient disposal services for communities, businesses and industries serving Williamson County and surrounding areas. Also located at the facility is Hutto Recycling Center. The Williamson County Landfill and Hutto Recycling Center are owned by Williamson County and operated by Waste Management. The Williamson County Landfill is a Type I Municipal Solid Waste (MSW) landfill. The site fully complies with U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) and Texas Commission of Environmental Quality (TCEQ) regulations for municipal and solid waste landfills. The facility employs a multi-layer composite liner system that includes an engineered clay barrier and a 60-mil high-density polyethylene (HDPE) membrane to contain the waste deposited in it, and to manage both leachate and the landfill gas naturally produced by decomposition inside the waste mass. The landfill is permitted to accept non-hazardous household, commercial and special waste, as well as construction and demolition debris. The landfill does not accept regulated hazardous or radioactive waste. This facility is engineered with environmental protection systems that meet or exceed rigorous government regulations, and is subject to highlyregulated monitoring and reporting requirements. Systems include engineered liners and covers, leachate collection and removal, and landfill gas and control.
