Sampling general Sampling period Test location A 8 consecutive weeks summer conditions 8 consecutive weeks winter conditions. For tests in broilers: 2 batches, with measurements for 4 weeks at the end of eachbatch Aim is to test minimum and maximum conditions Test location B Identical to location A. Summer conditions: Ventilation rate for the animal house must be > 80% of the maximum dimensioned ventilation rate per animal for at least 3 h per day for 50% of all the measurement days within the 8 weeks testing period Winter conditions: Ventilation rate for the animal house shall be low and below 30 % of maximum ventilation rate per animal for at least 3 h per day for 50% of all the measurement days within the 8 weeks testing period. For partial air cleaning and for poultry production individual sampling conditions for that specific case have to be defined in the test plan. A minimum of two month interval in between the summer and winter measurements is required. Sampling points Simultaneous sampling of inlet and outlet air. Identical to location A.

Ammonia Test location A: o 24 hours continuous sampling once a week during each of the two 8 week periods. o For N balance: 2 week continuous NH 3 measurement within each of the two 8 week periods in times with highest loads. Test location B: o Identical to location A but measurements on only 4 days during the 8 weeks winter period and 6 days during the 8 weeks summer period. o Measurement days equally spread over the 8 weeks period. o In broilers: at least one sampling during the last week of the production cycle. Gas detection tubes: generally not allowed (only for indicative measurements). For N balance: online measurements The measurement method shall be the same for inlet and outlet air

N balance 2 weeks for biofilters: 4 weeks) online gas (NH 3, NO X, N 2 O) and volumetric flow measurements (gas and liquid). Water analyses (test location A): During the 2 week continuous NH 3 measurements. NOx and N 2 O: not necessary for acid scrubbers. For multistage scrubber systems only the total N balance is required and not for the individual steps. The step of biofiltering with organic filling material should not be included in the balancing

Odour Minimum number and distribution of sampling days: o Test location A: Weekly with 2 sets of samples per day. o Test location B: 4 days during the 8 weeks winter period and 6 days during the 8 weeks summer period. Sampling days equally spread over the 8 weeks period with at least one sampling during the first week and one sampling during the last week. Sampling between 9 am and 4 pm, Minimum 30 minutes, Cross section of air outlets Sampling equipment and time: according to the EN Odour characteristics (optional) Olfactometry according to EN Parameters to be measured during the measurement days: air volume flow (simultaneously und continuously with a measurement frequency < 5 min) Temperature humidity (before & after the air cleaner) must be >90 % in clean gas to prove proper function of system. ph of discharged water (at least once a week).

Dust Only on Test location A required. Measurement of PM2.5 is optional. Minimum number and distribution of sampling days for Total dust and PM10: two sets of samples in each of the 8-weeks-periods. Sampling days should be in different weeks. isokinetic sampling or the air speed below 2 m/s. Sampling time shall be adjusted to provide detectable mass of particles. As a guideline: between 30 min and 24 hours. For short measurements, sampling shall be between 9 am and 4 pm Each sampling day use at least two sets of samples either consecutive or in parallel. Sampling location: based on air velocity and homogeneity Gravimetric methods (EN 13284, EN 12341, EN 481, VDI 2066 Blatt 1 to Blatt 7 and Blatt 10)

Operational stability Operational stability of the air cleaning system must be sufficient as it is a verification item Verified by Electronic logging of relevant parameters Water analyses once a week with ph electric conductivity, NH 4 -N, NO 2 -N and NO 3 -N (within 8 week periods).

Test conditions - parameters Mandatory: Ventilation rate Number of animals animal occupation rate: %. Temperature, relative humidity Pressure loss Consumption of energy, chemicals Discharge liquid (amount, ph, conductivity, NH3, NO2, NO3) Management (Empting of pits, cleaning, dunging, feeding) Optional: Noise NH 3 at animal level CO 2 CH 4 H 2 S Biological systems: NOx, N 2 0

Test report Requirements on test report: Emission reduction: working principle Housing and management system, test sites Conformity of measurement methods to test protocol Calculation and statistical methods Plausibility of measurements, measurement uncertainty, calibration of instruments Deviations from test protocol allowed if well documented: Protocol: ammonia, odour and dust emissions required No expected effect (both reduction or increase in emissions), measurements not needed
