Energy Task Cards Corrections

#1 Most of the energy we use originally came from the A) the sun

#2What do you call the energy an object has while its in motion? A) kinetic energy

#3Which object has the most kinetic energy? D) A TRUCK FALLING OFF A CLIFF.

#4 Which kinds of energy travaels in waves? A) sound and light

#5 Electrical energy can be produced from D) all of the above: mechanical, chemical, and radiant:

#6 What do you call the movement of energy through substances? A) wave energy and B) sound energy Both waves and sound are causing the medium to vibrate as the energy moves THROUGH that medium. The medium stays there but the energy moves through.

#7 Which type of energy is considered stored energy? C) Potential energy

#8 Which has the highest potential energy? B) A rock on the edge of a cliff.

#9Which fuel provides the most energy in the United States? A) Petroleum

We pump up the petroleum and send it to be refined and made into several types of fuels

What is fractional distillation of a fossil fuel? This is a refining process that takes the crude oil to higher grade fuels. Crude oil provides the starting raw material for making lots of different chemicals for a variety of uses. The uses of the fractions from fractional distillation fuel gas, LPG, refinery gas, gasoline, petrol, naphtha, paraffin, kerosene, diesel oil, gas oil, fuel oil, lubricating oils, wax and bitumen fractions are tabulated and many are non renewable fuels. The uses of a fraction is related to its physical properties e.g. ease of vaporization & boiling point or its viscosity ('stickiness') and the dangers of flammability are pointed out too. There is also a discussion on what makes a good fuel and reference

The process of refineries?

So what is natural gas and where do we find it? Natural gas is a combustible, gaseous mixture of simple hydrocarbon compounds, usually found in deep underground reservoirs formed by porous rock. Natural gas is a fossil fuel composed almost entirely of methane, but does contain small amounts of other gases, including ethane, propane, butane and pentane.

#10 What is the energy produced by the rubbing together of two or more substances? A) Friction

#11 Which type of energy is considered working energy? D) Kinetic energy

#12 How does an object gain potential energy D) By being raised above the ground:

# 13) Coal, petroleum, natural gas, and propane are fossil fuels. They are called fossil fuels because B) They are formed from burned remains of plants and animals:

Coal:

Petroleum and natural gas:

#14 Which is not an example of renewable energy? C) Fossil fuels Because these take so long to form they say them are nonrenewable for us in the present.

#15 What is the correct transformation in a solar panel? A) Radiant to electrical

#16 What is the energy of moving or vibrating molecules which produce high temperatures? A) thermal energy

#17 What is the correct energy transformation in a hot air balloon? C) chemical to electrical to thermal

#18 Compressed springs and stretched rubber bands are examples of which kind of stored energy? B) mechanical energy:

#19 The type of energy found when an atom is split apart is called C) Nuclear energy

#20 What is the potential of a chemical substance to undergo a transformation through a chemical reaction? B) chemical energy

#2) What type of energy transformation is observed when a flashlight is turned on? D) chemical to electrical to light

#22 A car crash is an example of which kind of working energy? D) motion

#23 What is the correct energy transformation in a hydropower dam? C) potential to electrical

#24 Batteries and coal are both examples of what type of stored energy? A) chemical energy

#25 Electricity is the movement of? C) Electrons

#26 Wind is an example of which kind of working energy? C) motion

#27 A roller coaster going down a hill is an example of C) Kinetic energy

#28 Sound is produced when a causes an object or substance to. B) force; vibrate

#29) Solar, biomass, geothermal, and hydropower energy are all renewable sources of energy. The are called renewable because they C) can be replenished by nature in a short period of time.

#30) Light is an example of which type of working energy? A) Radiant energy

# 31) What type of energy is found in a roller coaster sitting at the top of a hill? D) Potential energy

# 32) Lightning is an example of which type of working energy? B) Electrical
