2 WORLD WATER FORUM Organized by the World Water Council The world s most important water-related event Every three years a country and a city host this important initiative The World Water Forum aims at promoting the dialogue to influence the decision-making process on water at global level, seeking the rational and sustainable use of this resource Because of its political, technical and institutional approach, the Forum has an open and democratic participation 2018 = 8 th edition In 2014, Brasilia was chosen as the host city for this edition

4 MINISTRY OF ENVIRONMENT OF PORTUGAL Why the Ministry of Environment of Portugal is so engaged with the 2018 World Water Forum? The Ministry is not a member of the World Water Council But, we recognize this event as the world s most important water-related event We acknowledge the diversity of stakeholders it encompasses and the role it plays in awareness raising and exchange of best practices in the field of water We see it as a natural space of a country with high expertise in the field of water and with a natural vocation for international cooperation We have a long tradition of participation in these fora It is the first time it takes place in a Portuguese Speaking Country Portuguese Minister for Environment launched in january 2017, the Project Portugal Towards Brazilia 2018 Portugal Towards Brazilia 2018

5 Sustainability Focus Group Assures perspectives on sustainable water use to all components and promotes a sustainable event in all its aspects 8th WORLD WATER FORUM MAIN COMPONENTS Thematic Process Stakeholders get together to propose solutions for priority issues, establishing goals to be achieved by multiple organizations Regional Process 6 regions (Africa, Americas, Asia-Pacific, Europa, Mediterranean, and Arab-North Africa) and some sub-regions identifies local/regional good practices and mobilize stakeholders case base process Political Process Governors/Ministers/Local Authorities, Parliamentarians and Judges and Prosecutors developing political goals and proposing solutions Citizen s Forum Process Mobilizes and develops the implementation of solutions through citizen democratic and social participation and local experiences Fair & Exibition
