Today s Transit for Tomorrow s World Progressing the Deployment of Hydrogen Fuel Cell Buses Lauren Skiver CEO/General Manager

SunLine Facts SunLine Operations Fourteen (14) local SunBus fixed routes, (1) express line, (1) Riverside Commuter Link, ADA Paratransit 66 CNG buses 5 Electric Hydrogen Fuel Cell buses 3 All Electric Battery buses 35 CNG Paratransit Vehicles 220 Kg Hyradix Reformer Usage 100 Kg per day Operated 4.3 million revenue miles for 4.5 million passenger trips 315 Employees

eaders In Alternative Fuel Technology arly and Current Hydrogen Projects Leaders in Hydrogen Electric Fuel Cell Bus Technology for over a decade SunLine will have 19 Electric Fuel Cell Buses in 2-3 years

Leaders In Alternative Fuel Technology Current Battery Electric Buses Three BYD 40 Battery Electric Buses Leased and put in service January 2016

People Often Ask Us What has contributed to SunLine s success? Mission focus on alternative fuel use Commitment by SunLine staff Board Policy/support Internal expertise and continual reinvestment Solution based approaches with OEM s Sustained efforts to pioneer the technologies that the industry is using today Data collection and review of performance, costs and life cycle reliability Strong communication to our internal team and external stakeholders

SunLine Board Policy Adopting a Policy of the Purchase of Alternatively Fueled Vehicles Approved March 24, 1993 Actions to be Followed The State of California has established four categories of alternate fuel vehicles: 1) Zero Emission Vehicles; 2) Ultra Low Emission Vehicles; 3) Low Emission Vehicles; 4) Transitional Low Emission Vehicles. SunLine will, whenever possible, purchase vehicles in the same order as listed above.

efinition of Opportunity Commercialization of Zero Emission Technology must include the Transit Industry s perspective in three key areas: Risk associated with the investment in the technology (purchase readily accepted vs. introductory technology) Performance associated with the reliability of the equipment Mission focus and organization communication focused on Zero Emission Program that starts at the top but is routinely reinforced at all levels Affordability of initial investment and support costs

Moving Forward What would it take to move to a 100% Hydrogen Fleet? Greater understanding of the reliability of Hydrogen technology Greater maintainability of Hydrogen technology Commercialization of the Hydrogen technology Competition Price Reduction Increased Fueling/Fueling Infrastructure Options Trained mechanics/technicians Repeatable acquisitions strategy Repeatable In-Service Management strategy

SunLine s Center of Excellence Establish a Center of Excellence to house investments in learning For every investment in technology, there is investment in training and learning Funding partners have already made substantial investments in the technology Center of Excellence will be a site to preserve and enhance those learning investments Acquisition and in-service management Leverages prior investments and prevents duplication in future technology projects Is not limited to transit technology and can transcend other spill over applications

Center of Excellence Update Where we are in the project? $1,519,855 funding received from FTA (Maintenance and Training Facility) $270,000 funding received from FTA (Center of Excellence Staffing) $8,000 funding received from California Fuel Cell Partnership (Outreach) Milestones SunLine and its partners have achieved: Built Center Collaborations with: Ballard BAE BYD California Fuel Cell Partnership College of the Desert CTE Rio Hondo College New Flyer of America Proterra

SunLine s Capital Project List The following project awards are on schedule for the next 36 months: (5) Hydrogen Buses & Onsite Hydrogen Station New Operations Facility (5) Hydrogen Fuel Cell Buses (LoNo) Transportation Demand Management (Vanpool) Battery Dominant Fuel Cell Bus (4) Zero Emission Buses All Electric Center of Excellence Facility for Zero Emission Vehicle Training Total Project Awards: $43,314,422
