12 Development of Iowa s Aquatic Invasive Species Law Iowa legislature passed Eurasian Watermilfoil Law and appropriated $100,000 to Iowa DNR 2004 Iowa Legislature amended Eurasian Watermilfoil Law to Aquatic Invasive Species Law 2004 Natural Resources Commission approved Aquatic Invasive Species Rule 2005 Iowa Legislature dedicated funding from boat registration fee increase to Iowa DNR Aquatic Invasive Species Program

13 Aquatic Invasive Species Law (Iowa Code 456A.37) Defines aquatic invasive species as Eurasian watermilfoil, purple loosestrife, and zebra mussels Prohibits transport of aquatic invasive species or launching a watercraft with aquatic invasive species into public waters Provides for rules to restrict use of, identify waterbodies infested with, and define additional aquatic invasive species Sets fine at $500 plus court costs
