2 About us and our work Set up in Independent public interest organisation that works for policy change, advocacy and research on environmental sustainability and good governance. An institution to bridge the gap between information and knowledge; between knowledge and public awareness; to influence public policies and practices for sustainable development.

Some prominent domestic and international awards include the 2005 Stockholm Water Prize and the Prince Albert II of Monaco Foundation Water Award in CSE tops the list of 100 most influential environmental organisations globally Sunita Narain, the present CSE director, received the prestigious Padma Shri from the Government of India in 2006.

20 Experience Sharing Workshops: First Experience Sharing Workshop on EIA and SIA was conducted in September 15-26, participants attended the training programme of which five participants were from South Asia- Bhutan, Bangladesh, Sri Lanka and Mauritius. Rest of the 12 were from Africa, Ghana, Ethiopia, Kenya, Gambia, Nigeria, Botswana, Mozambique, Tanzania, Zambia and Egypt Second Experience Sharing Workshop was held on Mining in April 13-18, participants attended the training programme of which five participant from Sri Lanka, Ethiopia, Kenya, Nigeria, Botswana, Mozambique, Tanzania, and Zambia.

21 Experience Sharing Workshops: Third experience sharing workshop was conducted on waste management in Colombo, Sri Lanka, February, African countries participated- Ghana, Egypt, Ethiopia, Swaziland, Malawi, Nigeria, Botswana, Tanzania, Mozambique, Kenya and Gambia Fourth experience sharing workshop was conducted on compliance and enforcement in Nairobi, Kenya, March, African nations participated
