4 Aban 1397 (1390 = 100) The Export Price Index (XPI) decreased 5.9 percent in Aban The index level of was percent higher than in Aban During the first eight months of the current Iranian year, the XPI rose percent compared to the similar period in The XPI has advanced percent over the past twelve months. In Aban, the animal products group index moved down 6.3 percent, which was mainly due to the decreases in the prices for yogurt, frozen fish, and sheep assorted casing. The vegetable products group index turned down 9.7 percent. The mentioned decline was attributed to the decreases in the prices for pistachio, saffron, date, raisin, liquorice extract powder, and shelled almond. The 28.2 percent decrease in the animal or vegetable fats and oils group index was mainly due to the fall in the price for soya oil. The prepared foodstuffs, beverages and tobacco group index moved down 4.0 percent, largely due to the decreases in the prices for biscuit and wafer, cake, ice cream, non-cacao chocolate, potato chips, fruit juice, soft drink, chocolate, chewing gum, and pasta. In this group, the price for tomato paste increased. During the mentioned month, the group index for mineral products went down 1.9 percent. Declines in the prices for industrial oil, copper concentrate, paraffin wax, cement, engine oil, and barite powder were the major reasons for this fall 1

5 while the advances in the prices for propane, bitumen, and butane were also considerable. The products of the chemical or allied industries group index fell 6.2 percent. Lower prices for styrene, mono ethylene glycol, urea fertilizer, "detergent powders and liquids", ammonia, dodecyl benzene, shampoo, caustic soda, molybdenum oxide, glue, alkyd anti-corrosion primer, crystal melamine, and spray paint were the main factors for the mentioned decrease. In contrast, the price for methanol turned up, over this month. The 8.2 percent decrease in the plastics and articles thereof, rubber and articles thereof group index was led by declines in the prices for low density polyethylene, high density polyethylene, plastic hoses, motorcycle tire, polyvinyl chloride, and polycarbonate. During this month, decrease in the price for processed sheep skin led to the fall in the group index for skins and leather and articles thereof by 6.1 percent. In Aban, the group index for wood and articles of wood turned down 3.3 percent. Mostly as a result of declines in the prices for hand-woven carpet, machinemade carpet, gunny, polyester fibers, rug, babies clothing, and tulle, the textiles and textile articles group index moved down 9.9 percent. The footwear group index went down 6.5 percent, largely due to the decreases in the prices for "sandal with uppers of rubber or plastics" and "shoe with uppers of rubber or plastics". 2

6 The articles of stone group index dropped 6.8 percent over this month. The fall was driven by decreasing prices for float glass, "tile and ceramic", building stones, and sanitary porcelain. As a result of decreasing in the prices for hot coil iron, zinc ingot, iron beam, lead ingot, galvanized pipes, and ferromolybdenum, the base metals and articles of base metal group index decreased 7.4 percent. Falls in the prices for air cooler, cable, gas water heaters, and sewing machine caused 5.2 percent decline in the machinery and mechanical appliances, electrical equipment group index. The vehicles and associated transport equipment group index turned down 6.2 percent in Aban, mainly due to the decreases in the prices for tractor, car radiator, and motorcycle. 3
