2 Who we are The sustainability adviser for leaders of the West Midlands Created in 2002 as a not-for-profit company Government recognised sustainability champion body for West Midlands West Midlands Combined Authority sustainability delivery partner Board is private sector led and cross-sector representative Catalyst for action with members and networks in the private, public and voluntary sectors Core team of staff and associates based in Birmingham office Our vision is that by 2020 businesses and communities are thriving in a West Midlands that is environmentally sustainable and socially just.

3 The West Midlands Combined Authority Focus: local economic growth and public sector efficiency Core members: Black County, Birmingham, Solihull, Coventry councils, and others joining within wider 3 LEP reach Powers and funding: devolved areas of transport, housing, skills. 8bn 30 year programme (90% HS2, transport, public estate) also energy & skills. Elected Mayor: May Andy Street chairing cabinet of representatives from elected local councils Strategy: Single Economic Plan and supporting programmes. Also Midlands Engine - WM & EM transport, research and inward investment focused initiative

6 WMCA Environment Board internal integration and external coordination WMCA Environment Board Role to drive WMCA sustainability performance internally and coordinate external partnerships and programmes Chaired by WMCA Environment Portfolio Holder Cllr Patrick Harley and reports to Mayor and WMCA Board Members are Cabinet members for the environment from WMCA local authority members Supported by officers and partners from a range of organisations leading workstreams on natural environment, buildings, green energy, air quality, waste etc they form the WMCA Environment Board Advisory and Delivery Group (EADG). 9 WMCA Natural Environment Commitment in WMCA Annual Plan and Environment Board Action Plan Collaboration with natural environment partners, businesses, and Government to develop a long-term natural capital investment strategy to help coordinate and attract investment to improve the state and use of natural assets. Working with WM Natural Capital Roundtable Aim to building into Industrial Strategy and Spatial Development Infrastructure Plan, Investment Programme, Building Standards. Also potential standalone programme

10 WMCA Public Health WMCA Health and Wellbeing Board Delivery of WMCA Mental Health Commission recommendations around workplace support programmes. Integration of public health outcomes within WMCA activities transport and planning WMCA Public Service Reform Board Early prevention activities to reduce costs for public sector youth offending, public health etc Inclusive Growth Unit provide advice on how to share benefits for all of local economic growth.
