8 12. Regarding food waste, do you have any suggestions on how your local government could improve? Count Response 1 Food waste drop off opportunities 1 Obtain more grant funds for collection contracts. More food scrap collection haulers are needed. 1 Outreach to generators and potential distributors or users of surplus food 1 Provide a means for organic recycling to our residents 1 Provide better resources and outreach to make composting and food rescue easier. 1 State money needed for outreach regarding the proposed 2021 ban and curbside collection equipment 1 State regulations 1 Resources for recovery, uses for animals (how to get food to farms), industrial process, and then support for haulers... 1 I think we should concentrate on large generators first as residential food waste is harder to capture and is of lower percentage of entire issue. 1 Require generators of 1 ton of food waste per week to divert organics. Enact policy that makes use of compost for certain types of projects a standard operating procedure, i.e. erosion control on highway embankments, and use in park maintenance. 1 With limited resources it is difficult to add more to an already full outreach program, but I think food waste reduction and food donation are the key areas that we, as a gov't, could educate people on. I don't feel there are enough outlets (besides home composting) for us to promote on a large scale. We also do not have the manpower to host a composting demonstration - but if someone else was we'd be happy to promote it and provide some assistance. 1 End market development for municipal generated compost that meets high standards. Brownfields, required soil amendments for road projects, remediation activities agricultural applications/ 1 The County has access to land and landfills. We need to utilize our skills and resources to improve our reaction to food waste. 1 We are working to establish a permanent food waste composting program municipally, but in addition to that, we could have drop spots and/or curbside pickup by the Town (private hauler is their only option currently). We could also do education/outreach on wasted food/food donation, etc.
