Guideline to Entering Examination Forms concerning s subject to the RoHS Directive 1 Version for December 1, 2003

Outline 1. This Guideline to Entering Examination Forms concerning s subject to the RoHS Directive has been devised to determine whether your company s products are in compliance with the RoHS Directive, and provides sections for entering details on parts and materials. 2. First, we ask you to determine whether your parts are in compliance with the RoHS Directive. 3. Should you determine that your parts are not in compliance, we request that you supply information on your policy for substitution or preparations for use of substitutes 4. Should you determine that your parts are in compliance, we request that you supply information on the content of hazardous substances in each of the parts concerned. 5. Furthermore, in the case of mounted parts, in addition to information on your efforts to accommodate RoHS, we also require information on the heat resistance properties of your parts and their compatibility with lead-free soldier. 6. The answer sheets have been prepared in using Excel 2000, 97. 2

Cautionary notes Although the specific details of the RoHS Directive have yet to be determined, for the purpose of this examination, we will assume the following: Threshold values :Cadmium :1 0ppm Lead, Hexavalent Chrome, Mercury :10 0ppm PBB PBDE:1 00ppm Furthermore, please note that this serves as a rough standard for determining whether or not to provide detailed data. It does not serve as the threshold for determining whether are part is or is not in compliance. Content densities of substances in part sections Homogenous substances are considered to be the denominator. (For example, sections up to the coating are considered to be the denominator) Please refer to page 11. 3

Guideline to entering forms <General > Please enter all blank sections within columns containing information concerning parts subject to examination (Entry is not needed if the manufacturer s name and the manufacturer s serial number have already been added ) If the part concerned has been supplied through multiple vendors, please make entries for each vendor (After checking each vendor, it is acceptable to merely indicate the case in which the content of regulated substance concerned is highest.) If the data of your responses is common for a group of parts, you may change the order of the list and enter a response for the first of the group only. In such case, please add a note to the remarks column to the effect that the response applies to all parts in the group. Responses to examination items are divided into the following three types. 1)General information :General responses to the items subject to examination as prepared in advance by NEC. (In or not in compliance with RoHS; data on substitutes or plans for substitutes ) 2)Information on individual matters :Responses on sections of parts concerned. [Up to three different sections ] (Detailed information on individual sections) 3)Heat resistance information :Responses on part terminals and heat resistance (in case of mounted parts ) Entries are made by selecting or entering. If the item you wish to enter is not included in the, please select Other and use overwrite to enter the appropriate item. Threshold values (Compliance determination values) are as follows: 1) Cadmium 100ppm 2) Lead, hexavalent chrome, mercury, PBB, PBDE 10 0ppm Note: The results of evaluation of current products using the above threshold values do not necessarily guarantee a continuation of transactions in the future. Items that have been deleted from the RoHS Directive are indicated on page 11. 7

Guideline to Data Entry <Explanation on how to fill in general information columns > 1. In the column marked Compliance with RoHS Directive, please select and enter In compliance or Not in compliance. (Note: if even one section of a part exceeds the threshold value, please select Not in compliance ) Note: The results of determinations as to whether a part is in compliance do not necessarily guarantee a continuation of transactions in the future. 2. If you have selected In compliance, please select from the Reason for compliance column either Does not contain substance concerned, Within threshold value for substance concerned or Exclusion from RoHS Directive, entering the number of the excluded item. If you have selected Not in compliance, you do not need to enter any further columns. If Exclusion from RoHS Directive applies in your case, please select the number of the excluded item as appearing on page If the item concerned is Not in compliance, please select an item from the Response policy column and enter your scheduled date of conversion to a substitute in the Date of response column. Furthermore, in order to indicate whether you have prepared a substitute, please select the Substitute column. Note: if you have prepared a substitute and already have detailed information concerning this, in the following sheet, please enter the NEC designated number, as well as the product number of the substitute part. Then, follow the flow for compliance, entering all necessary items. If you do not have detailed information at present, you do not need to fill in the Specific section column. In such case we will ask you for details at a later date, and request your cooperation in this regard. 8

Guideline to entering forms <Explanation on how to fill in individual data input columns > If you have specified that a part is in compliance with the RoHS Directive, please provide information on the content density of the specific sections concerned. 1. From the Specified section column, please select the section concerned. The following questions 2-5 concerning sections are presented as a set. In the case of multiple sections, please enter each section on a new line starting from the section with the highest density in relation to the threshold value. 2. In the Name of section material column, please select Ceramic, Glass, Steel, Copper, Aluminum or Other. 3.In the Name of hazardous substance column, select Cadmium, Hexavalent chrome, Lead, mercury, PBB or PBDE. 4. In the Content density column, please enter the maximum value (Numerical values should be expressed in weight ppm (1/1 million) ) 5. In the Data type column, please enter Theoretical value or Actual value. 6. In the method of Analysis column, please select ICP-AES, Fluorescent X-rays, Gas chromatograph or Other (Please enter only when data type is an actual value) 7. If the part concerned contains hazardous substances in a number of sections, please select from the name of the section concerned from the Specific section column and answer questions 2-5 above. 9 Whenmakingaresponse, pleaserefertotheattachedexamples foreachpartsubjecttoexamination.

Guideline to entering forms <Explanation of how to fill in heat resistance data input columns > 1. In the Part terminals lead column please indicate whether lead is included in the part terminal electrodes. If lead is not included, please enter the material in the Part terminals Material column. e.g., Sn 100% 2. In the Part heat resistance determination column, please determine whether the part concerned satisfies the heat resistance test levels S1, S2, B or C as indicated in the following chart by entering a circle (yes) or cross (no). (Using the pre-heat temperature as a reference, please perform determination the maximum certifiable level at the peak temperature when soldering.) 3.In the Part heat-resistance recommended conditions column, please enter your recommended conditions. Levels S1 and S2 are of a level equivalent to the standard as specified in Request for Conversion to Leadfree parts (July 29, 2002) (A peak temperature of 260 for a part volume of < 350mm3; 250 for a part volume of 350mm3) The soldering temperature, however, was reduced from The peak heating temperatures were as follows: Level S1: Peak temperature: 260 ; Peak time: 255 for 10 seconds Level S2: Peak temperature: 250 ; Peak time: 245 for 10 seconds 2. Level B is deemed to be a level able to accommodate certain products when the latest reflow kiln is used. The peak heating temperature is 240 for 10 seconds (flat peak) 3. Level C is the level restricted to level for VPS reflow. The peak heating temperature is 230 for 40 seconds (flat peak). 10 re mo T 4 T 3 T 2 T 1 t 1 t 2 Time(s)
