INSTALLATION AND OPERATION INSTRUCTIONS The G-Nova must be installed by a licensed plumber in accordance with the local and state regulations. Standard Operation The G-Nova is connected to a wastewater line that is connected only to a source of greywater. This connection must only be via an appropriate greywater diversion device. All greywater that flows into the G-Nova is filtered for the removal of lint, hair and other particles that can damage the pump and irrigation system. This lint filter must be cleaned and replaced to maximise the reclamation of greywater. Filtered greywater is discharged to the application area immediately and must not be stored. The pump supplied with the G-Nova activates through an internal float and pumps down to a level of less than 2cm. This ensures that minimal greywater remains in the device. The G-Nova must only be operated during dry weather periods to ensure that the application area does not become supersaturated and greywater does not leave the site. During rain events the diversion valve must remain closed, and all greywater must be directed to sewer. Lint Filter The G-Nova is provided with a lint filter for the removal of particulate matter that can damage the pump and block the irrigation system. For this reason the system must be installed, commissioned and be maintained with this filter in place. When the Lint Filter becomes blocked greywater will overflow to the sewer. Therefore, this filter must be checked and cleaned by the owner to ensure the maximum recovery of greywater (see Maintenance). Three lint filters are provided with the system so that they may be readily replaced if damaged. Replacement lint filters can be purchased from local hardware suppliers or directly from Everhard Industries. Pump The G-Nova is provided with a Claytech Prosub-6 Pump that is fitted with an internal float. The Prosub-6 has a maximum pump pressure of 6.5m with approximate pump discharges are provided in Table 1. Table 1 Pump Discharges 1 Head (m) Flow (m 3 /h) The installer of this G-Nova must understand the limitations of the pump and the influence of head loss through the irrigation system. Replacement Pumps can be purchased from local hardware suppliers or directly from Everhard Industries. 1 Discharges can be accurately assessed by referring to the Owner Manual for the Prosub-6. 1

Installation 1. Find a suitable location on the property for the installation of the G-Nova. When assessing the location the owner should ensure that the site Provides for the level and stable placement of the G-Nova; Allows easy access to a source of greywater; Allows for overflow from the system to be directed to sewer; Has a local power supply (240V). 2. a. Locate appropriate greywater source pipe. Warn occupants not to use fixtures from these locations until the G-Nova has been commissioned. b. Cut into greywater source pipe. Glue and fit a greywater diverter valve. c. Close diverter valve so that greywater is diverted to sewer. The diverter must remain in this position until the G-Nova is installed and commissioned. d. Greywater diverter must be turned off during rain events and while performing maintenance on G-Nova. 3. Remove all parts from the box and assemble a. Unscrew lid and place greywater pit basket in the pumpwell so that the inlet and outlet holes are aligned. b. Push both 50mm BSP poly bulkhead fittings with fitted gaskets through the holes and place a bead of silicon around the external surface immediately adjacent to the holes c. Push on gaskets and securely tighten bulk head fittings. Wipe off excess silicon. d. Remove Prosub-6 from box and apply teflon tape around the thread. e. Place back flow valve over Prosub-6 outlet and screw on 32mm 90 o poly elbow. f. Undo the barrel union of the pumpwell PVC Fitting and apply teflon tape to the 32mm end. Firmly screw the fitting into the outlet and align so that the outlet is directly over the pump. g. Apply teflon tape over 25mm end of the pumpwell PVC fitting and firmly screw the fitting into the outlet of the 25mm poly bulkhead fitting. Push through the 25mm hole with fitted gasket. h. Place a bead of silicon around the external surface immediately adjacent to the hole, push on gaskets and securely tighten bulk head fittings. Wipe off excess silicon. i. Drop fitted pump into pumpwell. Manoeuvre so that barrel union is aligned then tighten. j. Place lint filter over removable screen and secure at the base of the greywater pit basket. k. Pull the power cord through the rubber grommet to the desired length. l. Secure lid onto the greywater pumpwell using the two screws. 4. Ensure that the lint filter covers the entire screen; the power cord for the pump reaches the power source; the lid is screwed firmly in place. 5. Connect The system to the source of greywater using an appropriate diverter and fittings. The overflow of the G-Nova to sewer using appropriate fittings. The 25mm pump outlet to the irrigation area using lilac hose or other approved irrigation hose. ALL JOINTS AND CONNECTIONS MUST BE GLUED TO PREVENT LEAKS THE SIZING OF IRRIGATION AREAS MUST BE DONE THROUGH REFERENCING STATE AND LOCAL GOVERNMENT GUIDELINES. THESE WILL DIFFER DUE TO THE VOLUME OF WATER EXPECTED AND THE SOIL TYPES. OWNERS MUST SEEK PROFESSIONAL ADVISE SO THAT THE AREA CAN BE APPROPRIATELY SIZED. 6. Plug in and turn on power. 2

Commissioning THE G-NOVA MUST BE INSTALLED AND COMMISSIONED BY A LICENCED PLUMBER. 1. Turn the diverter so that greywater is directed to the G-Nova. 2. Open a tap feeding this greywater line and ensure No greywater leaks from the new pipework; The pump is activated. Getting the Most Out of your G-Nova It is important that owners understand the operation and limitations of the G-Nova. The G-Nova does not treat nor disinfect the greywater. It provides a simple filtering mechanism that removes particulate matter from the greywater, allowing greywater to be pumped to locations around premises. It is very important that the G-Nova is operated only when the lint filter is in place. Failure to do this will void the warranty on the system as it may result in the premature failure of the pump and block the irrigation system. Best Practice 1. The best source of greywater is the rinse water from the washing machine - as it contains low concentrations of soaps, sodium, lint and bacteria. 2. Whenever possible use liquid soaps in areas that are a source of greywater and use liquid detergents in the laundry. 3. Close the diverter - When washing soiled nappies; When applying dyes or peroxides to hair. When cleaning areas that may be a source of greywater. Whenever rain events are predicted. 4. Clean the lint filter and check the irrigation area regularly. Use of Detergents and their Environmental Impacts Detergents that are used in the laundry and greywater can have an elevated ph and contain high concentrations of sodium and phosphorus. The continuous application of greywater containing these chemicals can cause the deterioration of soil and impact on the environmental quality. When possible, it is recommended that owners divert the wash cycle in their laundry as this contains the higher levels of contaminants. Owners are advised to use low sodium and low phosphorus detergents. Excellent resources for choosing laundry detergents may be found at Use of Chemicals Many chemicals are used in the cleaning of showers and laundries. These include bleaches and fungicides. When the home owner is using these products we recommend that all greywater be directed to sewer. IF IN DOUBT - LEAVE IT OUT! 3

Maintenance The G-Nova requires a certain amount of maintenance to ensure the maximum amount of greywater is reclaimed. Filter Cleaning Over time, the filter in the G-Nova will require cleaning. The frequency of cleaning will depend on the quantity and quality of greywater directed to the system. 1. Close diversion valve and turn off/unplug pump. 2. Unscrew two securing screws and remove lid. 3. Remove filter from the G-Nova before taking lint filter off frame. 4. Thoroughly wash lint filter. 5. Inspect the lint for signs of wear or damage and replace as required. 6. Refit lint filter over frame and secure in G-Nova. 7. Refit lid using the two securing screws ensuring that the pump cord is placed so that it cannot be pinched or damaged. 8. Plug in pump and turn on, and open diversion valve. 9. Wash hands immediately after performing this procedure. 4

Internal Cleaning The internal surfaces of the G-Nova are always damp. While standard operation does not allow greywater to be stored in the system there is the potential for bacteria to accumulate on the internal surfaces of the system. If this occurs the system will require cleaning to prevention of odours. 1. Close diversion valve and turn off/unplug pump. 2. Unscrew two securing screws and remove lid. 3. Remove filter and the pump from the G-Nova, and clean if necessary (see Page 4). 4. Fill the pumpwell with water and add 30mL of liquid bleach. 5. Refit lid using the two securing screws and leave for 24hrs. 6. Remove lid and bail out water, disposing it to sewer. 7. Refit filter and pump. 8. Refit lid using the two securing screws ensuring that the pump cord is placed so that it cannot be pinched or damaged. 9. Plug in pump and turn on and open diversion valve. 10. Wash hands immediately after performing this procedure. Holiday Mode When the occupants intend to vacate the residence for more than 48hours, it is recommended that the system is isolated by closing the diverter valve. The G-Nova can be thoroughly drained through using the manual override on the pump. 1. Close diversion valve. 2. Unscrew two securing screws and remove lid. 3. Lift the manual override switch located on the pump (Refer to Pump Owners Manual). Allow the pump operate until residual water is pumped from the G-Nova, before turning off the manual override. 4. Refit lid using the two securing screws ensuring that the pump cord is placed so that it cannot be pinched or damaged. 5. Wash hands immediately after performing this procedure. 5
